I've seen a couple threads but do any of you have links to pictures of IM tatoos?  Assuming I finish my first one, IMKY in August, I plan on getting one and would like to have some originality to it but with the actual M dot as well.

Did my first IM last September.  Got the tattoo the day after.  I figured I was in so much pain already...why not add to it... Here is mine: The donkey in the middle is our bt tri group, mainly from Madison and Milwaukee.  But to get some ideas, just go to google and type in Ironman tattoos...lots out there to see.

Here is mine. The tattoo artist came up with the idea to make it look like a finisher medal.

This thread creates a conflict for me. The title is asking a question about the "best" IM tattoos (which is why I am responding), but the body of the thread references using the M Dot. Here's my conflict: I am of the opinion that the best IronMan tattoos do not included the corporate logo. I do not automatically associate IronMan with the World Triathlon Association. Even though they own the brand, they do not own the idea, the ideals, or the 140.6 distance. I'll pay them for their services at IMLP in 2011, but unless they pay me I will not be permanently marking my body with their logo. I do intend to get inked to commemorate the accomplishment but it will be about me, not about them.

For those that choose the M dot, fantastic! Get whatever you want. Not my place to tell anyone what to do. I see lots of tattoos that I wouldn't want that have nothing at all to do with triathlon.

im

Not mine, although I did say I was going to get an IM tattoo one day when I finish one and my friend asked "which suit?".  He's a huge Iron Man fan.

I already paid the cost of the race and clothing (twice) - I don't want the ink.

I didn't do an M-Dot race so I didn't get the M-Dot logo. Instead I got this:

I have a nice m-dot tattoo that incorporates the fleur de lis to represent my finish at Ironman Louisville '08. I'm sure I posted it somewhere on my blog in Sept/Oct of /08.

I was very careful with my drawing, and choosing my artist and shop.  My biggest piece of advice to you is to be very precise with the actual M-Dot figure.  In my humble opinion, there's nothing worse than a really poorly drawn version of the m-dot.  If you're gonna do the logo, definitely do it right.

Anyone else have pics to share?

I considering one myself, and I'm thinking about incorporating the MDot and SBR 140.6 (something like in Mr2tony's) into one tat.

Any graphics artists out there have any images or ideas?

Totally agree. I have seen MANY M-Dot tattoos.... maybe half of the ones I've seen... that are poorly done. The angles, especially at the bottom of the "M" are way off and you can tell. I don't ever have the heart to say it on the forums, but this seemed like a good place.

^^^^^Agree....when I got mine I took my race number so the artist could use the Mdot in the bib number to use for the outline.  I definitely didn't want it to end up looking like a mess.

I really like this one... I've seen a few that are very similar, but IMHO this is just a cool tat.

and I"m someone that actually likes the plain M-dot.
