Since it was my birthday last week (which I celebrated by investing in a new bike), I'd like to spend a post here touting my accomplishments and setbacks. Sorry for the public airing of this, but my non-tri friends and family aren't terribly interested. I started tri-ing about a year ago and became a BT member in May 2009.
Major accomplishments:
Joined a swim master's team -- went from 2:15 per 100m to 1:40 per 100m cruise speed. PR, swam 3,475m in an hour. I was impressed with that, although a little disappointed when I learned that I came in 149th out of 195 participants.
Dropped 15 lbs.
What was my long bike is now my long run. What was a drive is now my long bike.
39 posts on BT -- ok, that's pretty weak, but this is the first msg board I've participated in. All posting done while sober.
Disappointments:
3 injuries which forced me to take some time off -- shoulder overuse injury (from swimming), minor broken ankle (tripped while running offroad), knee injury - MD says probably a meniscal tear (from ??)
I haven't done a tri yet - partly due to injuries, partly due to irrational nerves about it
Haven't made much progress losing the next 15 lbs
Still no six-pack! (Where's my f'n six-pack!?!) Probably related to the above point.
While I am not a big poster here on BT, I'm a voracious reader. I appreciate everyone's thoughful and respectful discussions, and I have learned a tremendous amount. Thanks to all of you! Man... a year makes a HUGE difference!
Congrats! I can't wait till I hit the one year mark (Started training in September '09). I did a 5k on Halloween last year that I want to repeat this year, and see how much I can improve on my time.
Congrats! I echo your sentiments. Year over year, I'm light years ahead of where I was this time last year and still seeing a lot of improvement just through being consistent. I was just looking back at my logs from last March and it brings back some memories!
I love threads like this. I was having a down moment the other day and looked back at my swim logs from last year. I've come a long way, baby, and so have you!
