This is by far the best post I have read on here to date,,,, I am a firm believer in the "there are two types of swimmers, those that pee in the pool and those who lye and say they dont pee in the pool. But as far as running and biking,,,, thats messed up,,, I dont have the money to pee on a 2500 bike that i can never see me having the money to replace,,,,, and unless you are talking about a really excessive binge drinking i could not make the decision to my pants,,, However all the power to you,,,, to sum up the answer to your question is YES you are completely insane,,, but you have the best post on this thing,,, cheers and happy peeing

Peeing in your wetsuit during an openwater swim is totally different than peeing in the pool.

Not to pee.  I'd hit pause/stop on my watch, do what I need to do, then resume.

I've peed when training to practice for racing. Some races do not have port a potties and are in locations you can't find a discrete place to go. I did a HIM where we rode along people's yards and no porta potty..so peeing on my bike was best choice.

I am able to pee when I run no problem...most of the time I don't want to.

Sometimes I just have to go right now and if there was no place to go I may just do what you did and TTs are hard both mentally and physically I wouldn't want to have to do it again...stupid dog!

Urine is sterile no big deal..you did take a shower after your run I assume.

Now the real question is, how did your TT go and did you get the data for your coach?

Personally, I think that unless you're a pro or top-level AG'er where every second decides whether you podium or not, its insane. Going #2 is on a whole new level of insane.

I just cant see the point taking a dump  in your shorts to win a race. Triathlete X may win at Kona, but people wont remember them for winning at Kona, theyll remember them as the person who crapped themselves while winning Kona.

IMHO.

Amen to that. I refuse to pee on myself. It's worth the two minutes to stop and go. Ew.

Include me in that club.

Peeing in wetsuit?  No prob.  Never on the bike or running.  I would rather the world see the package as I go on the side of the road than go on myself.

The OP remarks...had to go bad & no where to go.

When the urge comes...sometimes there is no denying the call.   Squatting to pee on the sidewalk, may have been a tad ackward, as well.

Sometimes you gotta do, what you gotta do!

PS.  i haven't done it, but I could see how someone would!

Never. I always find a tree or bush. However, most of my runs are through the really ritzy areas of Palm Beach, I sort of take a strange pleasure in it.Innocent

That's why I prefer to run (and bike) on the forest preserve trail.  Lots of trees and bushes to provide cover.

I can say, without a doubt, that I have never peed in a pool.  I really thought that was something folks didn't do (other than kids, that is).  OWS in a wetsuit (or without a wetsuit)?  Sure, no problem.  But peeing in the pool is bad form.

I guess if I really HAD to, I'd pee myself when running or biking, but it's never come to that yet in my life.

I've peed in a bottle while driving a few times, but try to keep it off the leather.  Works best on the freeway with cruise control on.

On my 2nd tri ever last summer I was on the bike leg and there were no port-a-potties.  I had had to pee for a while and it was causing me physical discomfort.  I really didn't see anywhere appropriate to duck behind either so I peed on myself.  And by that time, it really wasn't a choice it was an accident.  It was pouring the rain anyway, so the rain washed everything off.

While I will pee on myself in a race...I won't in training. It's not that hard to pull my shorts liner aside and look like i"m coughing, but really peeing. I mean, I don't stand in the middle of the trail to do it, but...

But then again, I don't do TT runs outside of races, really, so...

Umm, wow, reason 872, glad I am not a woman.

I can totally understand peeing yourself because you have to go...right NOW, and there is nowhere to hide. But because you didn't want to interrupt a training run, thats...dedicated.

Hope you don't get a rash, would be a shame to sacrifice a few training runs to save a minute on one...

here is an idea, do you business before a run, especially when you know you have to do an LT test.

You have NEVER peed in your wetsuit? That has got to be the SUPER MINORITY.

To the OP, if I HAD to go, I guess I would if ducking in to the bushes and being discreet were not an option. Peeing myself to not mess up my numbers? No, thank you.

A couple of thoughts on this thread:

1. Would I pee while moving in a race-I would, if I didn't have a places to duck and/or I was in the running for podium. I have rarely had this problem.

2. Would I pee in a pool-Never. Do adults really do this? I don't think so.

3. Is what you did OK-Why the hell not! I would doiubt you are planning on making it a habit, so no problemo.

Ok, here's what I tell my kids. It's ok to pee in open water, it's really yucky to pee in the pool. But with all the swim diapers I see at our pool (and the posts on this thread) I seriously doubt that most pools are pee free. It's one of those things I try not to think about.
Also, thanks Bossman. I was waiting for someone to quote Billy Madison.

Never done it, never plan to and I simply cannot fathom running in urine soaked socks and shoes.
Kegels - often, learn control it will come in handy now and forever.
