I think it's kinda weird.  It's a training run; find a bush and put an * by the TT result.

Wow, I never knew people had such strong feelings on the subject...
Personaly, I was already 20 min. in to my TT, and if you have done them, you know they are no joke..I really had no intentions on scratching this one just to pee somewhere and do it another day.
2nd..There was no where to go, no ducking behind a bush, tree, etc.
Part of the issue was the dog.I typically cant pee while running ,but being scared so bad by the dog, made me literally "pee my pants"
It's not like i make it a regular habit of doing this...

KathyG -Now the real question is, how did your TT go and did you get the data for your coach?

Kathy, my coach was really happy I didn't stop so she could get accurate #'s.  It was a god TT, despite the dog situation

I'm peeing on my bike right now, and I'm inside.

Seriously, I pee on the bike during an IM, and only once in training, it was pouring rain so it didn't matter.  I can't pee and run, but I'll try.

You know, I haven't need to do it yet, but I wouldn't have a problem with it if necessary.  Last thing I would want is to have to repeat a TT just because I didn't want to pee myself.  The physical pain of the TT greatly outweighs the psychological discomfort of peeing myself.

You go girl.

If I was "was really pushing hard for the TT," I wouldn't be able to pee. My equipment doesn't work that way.

I'm with bear that I don't think I could physically do it while running.  I'm just impressed that you could do it A) while running B) running hard.

Honestly, I've tried on the bike a couple times in training and in a race and it was hard to go.  I had to stop and now just stop if I have to go.  I was able to go a little once but still ended up having to stop anyway to get it all out...so what's the point there if I end up stopping anyway.  Now, I just stop once I reach critical mass.

On the run, I wouldn't attempt it personally but don't judge you.  I'm more impressed than anything.

I didn't realize people were so against it either on this forum...I've heard of people practicing it!

I have stopped on the side of the road in extreme cases on long rides/runs to pee.  I've only stopped in 2 races in my life.  I just don't get the need/urgency to pee while riding/running without stopping.  If someone is at the front of the race going for the win (or know they are really competitive in their AG) then perhaps that makes sense.

But even the Ironman pro level people stop and use the porta-a-pot based on their race reports!

I'm with Bear, my 'liquid' plumbing doesn't work when I am running.  On the other hand, nothing gets my 'solid' system going like running.  I would never intentionally do either while running.  Unintentionally, well, I don't think that is something we really talk about.

One of my running podcasts calls that a "Code Brown." Happens to me way too often, often enough where I carry TP on every run, but I always find a bush or grove of trees or something to duck behind. Even if I was in the most important training run of my life, I would pull over for a Code Brown.

I've answered the question several times in the past, but again: Yes, the bear does, uh, go in the woods.

I've had problems on runs with code brown stuff.  But only if I have eaten within a little bit of when I go out for a run.  If I eat the right stuff at the right time (well before my run) then I can avoid that - uhhhhhh - problem.

Nope, never done it.  Can't see that I ever would.  Not in the pool.  Not on the bike.  Not on a run.  Now, mallards are a completely different story.

I must, repeat must be misreading something in this thread. Are we talking about peeing our pants or pulling the shorts down and finding a way to pee without getting much if anything on us...w/o stopping?

If we are discussing peeing our pants than not for any reason should this be acceptable. Come on people...unless you are in the running for tens of thousands it is just a hobby, find a tree.

If on the otherhand we are talking about peeing outside the clothes while moving...thats cool.

I have not or will I ever pee or poop my pants while training or racing! I do sometimes pee in the pool but I drink so much water that my urine is clear so I just think of it as recycling. There ,is said it. Feels good to get it off my chest.

The only time I've pee'd myself while running was at a HIM...while I was pouring a glass of water over my head.

I say go for it...no biggie, especially if you don't mind running in squishy shoes.

I just want to say that this was a very entertaining thread to read.  Especially since I've upped my training time signififcantly this week and I'm kinda tired and cranky.  This made me laugh.  And I'm not judging...to each their own. And in the spirit of disclosue,  will admit to relieving myself in the OWS.

Wow.

There's a sign in the shower at my pool as you enter the pool area that reads "please shower before using the pool and don't use it as a toilet". Every time I see it I think to myself "who the hell needs to be told not to pee in the pool?"

Wow, so not a big deal!  Speaking as someone who has given birth to 4 children, I have the pleasure of peeing myself often when running...sometimes just coughing or laughing as well, and not intentionallyl.  Luckily, it is almost never enough to run down my leg....but it has happened on tough runs.  After reading this thread and seeing how gross this apparently is, I should just give up working out altogether and revert to my couch potato status!  Really would be easier Wink

Nope, my legs, my urine, I'm ok and so are you!!

Come to think of it, I peed myself in my wetsuit before every race last year.  Not only are you emptying your bladder at the last possible minute before the race, but its quite relaxing and keeps you warm as well, you should try it....just not if we are wading in the water at the start line of the same race...

I'm surprised by all of the "no" responses.  BT is where I was inspired to pee on myself (during races) in the first place!  I was so proud!  Seriously.
It's really not a big deal.  More power to ya...and congrats on getting through that TT run!

piperfl - 2010-03-31 3:15 PM S, how many of you choose to pee yourself while training?

Only reason i ask, yesterday I had a TT run and about 20 minutes into it, a dog came out of nowhere and started runnig at me and barking/growling..I thought I ws going to be pounced on and bitten.  Anyway, the owner got the dog, but in the meantime ,when I started runnign again, I had to pee really bad...no where in sight to hide or go, and I was really pushing hard for the TT..so, I peed while runnnig...Am I just insane?  IT's only training and not a race, but I really didn't want to mess up my  numbers for my coach to analyze.

Would you have done the same or stopped your TT and found a place to go?

I pee myself all the time when riding during the summer cause I'm way too lazy too stop. When I'm racing I pee myself no problem.

Unfortunately I've tried to pee while running and it just didn't happen.

In the famous words of Mr. Billy Madison...

"You're not COOL, unless you pee yo pants!!"
