I do sometimes pee in the pool but I drink so much water that my urine is clear so I just think of it as recycling. There ,is said it. Feels good to get it off my chest. Seriously????? Please tell me you are kidding?? |

But only if I have eaten within a little bit of when I go out for a run. If I eat the right stuff at the right time (well before my run) then I can avoid that - uhhhhhh - problem. Immodium (loperamide) can be the runner's friend. Edited by Oldteen 2010-04-02 10:34 AM |

Veteran 247 Atlanta | Subject: RE: To pee or not to Pee I say it's your body, you're by yourself, pee if you want. Who cares? I can't do it because I could not relax enough...but think it's awesome you can... In ancient Roman times, they used urine to wash clothes. It's just pee....but I love how worked up people got about it. :P |

Expert 759 | Subject: RE: To pee or not to Pee piperfl - 2010-03-31 4:15 PM S, how many of you choose to pee yourself while training? Only reason i ask, yesterday I had a TT run and about 20 minutes into it, a dog came out of nowhere and started runnig at me and barking/growling..I thought I ws going to be pounced on and bitten. Anyway, the owner got the dog, but in the meantime ,when I started runnign again, I had to pee really bad...no where in sight to hide or go, and I was really pushing hard for the TT..so, I peed while runnnig...Am I just insane? IT's only training and not a race, but I really didn't want to mess up my numbers for my coach to analyze. Would you have done the same or stopped your TT and found a place to go? Id def do it. No real reason for me not to. I find it rather difficult to get back up to pace once i stop for 2 min to pee...tie a shoe...or anything like that. AT mile 69 of my HIM there aint no way im stopping to pee...Id pee and keep on going. I think for me its more of a true distaste for stoping than it is for saving time |

Regular 408 | Subject: RE: To pee or not to Pee I honestly don't get why people have such an issue with peeing while racing. I have no problem if I can get it out. I have pee in my wetsuit and on the bike. I have not done it while running more because I am just not capable of doing it. If I stopped I don't think I could pee so it would be a waste of time. Only to start again, need to pee, and not able to. |

Master 2005 South Florida | Subject: RE: To pee or not to Pee Everyone has different reasons for doing this sport and different levels of intensity. Perhaps Jamie is looking to have a breakthrough year, while "Joe" is just doing this to stay in shape and blow off some steam. Plus, it was not just "training"...it was a time trial, which if done properly can be brutal and is pretty much like racing. |

Member 131 Long Island, NY | Subject: RE: To pee or not to Pee Although I had never needed to pee on the run, it wouldn't bother me. The only thing I would make sure is to give my shoes a good washing after! I have run many times in Boca (up and down A1A) and if one had to go suddenly, I know there is no place to hid. On the issue of 'Code Brown', many years ago when training solely for the marathon, I hit a patch of overtraining, and one of the effects was the sudden need for taking a dump in the middle of my run. No matter what I did before hand, there was a 2 week period where, sometime in the middle of my run, I had an immediate need to lay a few bricks. I usually had no more than a 60 second warning. Thankfully most of my running was done on a relatively secuded trail that was able to accomdate my plumbing issue. Thankfully as I lowered my mileage and took a few days off for NYCM, my systems came back under control. Thanks for letting me share. |

You don't sit there and marinate in your own urine when you're swimming. zed707 - 2010-03-31 3:40 PM mr2tony - 2010-03-31 3:37 PM nhunter344 - 2010-03-31 3:24 PM Amen to that. I refuse to pee on myself. It's worth the two minutes to stop and go. Ew.Personally, I think that unless you're a pro or top-level AG'er where every second decides whether you podium or not, its insane. Going #2 is on a whole new level of insane. So you've never peed in the wetsuit? Self flushing. Not the same. haha, no, you are just marinating in everyone's urine while swimming. |

Extreme Veteran 354 Townsville | Subject: RE: To pee or not to Pee it blows my mind to think that people think urinating is "gross". It is actually a sterile liquid. It contains no pathogens or anything like that. The only thing it really contains that is gross-ish is amonia and some other chemical compunds and a strong aroma IF you are dehydrated. If you are properly hydrated ( this is a topic elsewhere I am sure) then you should have vertually no odour and definitly no colour to the wee. I personally would have no issue with peeing in a race or even a specific TT coaching session BUT as bear and many others have said my internal plumbing and external hose just will not allow me to do so whilst excersizing in anyform. I was in an open water swim where I had to stop, tread water VERY slowly and RELAX to wee. I can NOT wee and excersise at all fro some reason. As far as code brown goes ----- well unless I was in the last KM in a race coming in for a place getters position ( never going to happen by the way) then I would possibly think about it if I really really REALLY had to go but other than NEVER NEVER NEVER poo in my pants . Although as a young teenager I did tdo a poo in some open water and was scared by the fact that the poo floated and followed me..... it was like the bloody thing wanted to come home with me. ARGHHHH. So in conclusion ... pee ... no real issue poo ... not in a month of brown sundays! |

I don't think it's that big of a deal to pee on the bike while racing... a good squirt from a water bottle and your good. Pee while running... even if I wanted to, couldn't. (but the chick-a-dees ~ if you had to and it worked, then Pee On!) |

Extreme Veteran 398 Denver | Subject: RE: To pee or not to Pee I think it's extra gross to have pee running down your leg and soaking your shoe whether training or racing...honestly I'm not sure how you even do that while running, pretty sure I couldn't. in the case of doing it while racing you could be affecting people around you who would prefer not to swim in your pee, ride behind you while you are peeing or splash in a puddle of pee while running. be considerate and use the proper facilities....pee pee pants :-P |

I will be peeing to my hearts content .... know why??? because I can and no one knows and ..... Because fish do it in the water and so to all sorts of other animals and it is STERILE! There are no greebies in healthy urine. Get over the idea that urnine ikky. It is a liquid and it is made inside your body and is sterile. Not sure how many times I need to actually say this but it is .... umm .... sterile. Of course wash your self for basic hygiene issues but in a race or a really important time trial for training and you have the ABILITY then GGOOOOOOO FFFFOOOORRRRRR IIIIITTTTTTTT! Keep the poo hidden! |
