Subject: Felt B12 vs Cervelo P2?
Buying new bike and looking for opinions.  Took B12 and P2 out for many test rides and both were remarkably similar...both were very comfortable and after FIST fitting I am confident that either can be dialed in similarly.  P2 would cost a little less.

With that being said, I am torn between B12 with deeper wheels and aesthetic preference (IMHO) to the P2 with a compact crank.

Any ideas to help me decide?

How about a B16 (same frame as the B12) with an ultegra rear derailleur upgrade and whatever aerobars you prefer. I bet you even money you couldn't tell the difference between this bike and the B12 if both bikes were fit the same. And you would save a lot of money to put towards race wheels or whatever goodies you want. I was talked down by my local tri shop from a B14 to a B16 because they didn't believe the extra 500 between those two bikes was worth it. They upgraded the rear derailleur to ultegra for free and put a set of carbon aero bars on for a $100 to sweeten the deal then I really couldn't feel the difference at all.

On the wheels between the two felt bikes the tri shop put it like this. You're paying extra money moving from the B16 to the 14 or 12 for a set of aluminum training wheels that are slightly more aero but still not race wheels and are not going to be very much faster than the wheels already on the B16. They also held by the theory that makes sense to me to not train on very aero wheels to make yourself work harder in training then put a nicer set of race wheels on when you race. That way you're used to working hard with a less aero wheel and then you get a larger speed gain going to a more aero wheel.

Just my 2 cents and what I did after a ton of research and trying a lot of different bikes out. Look at the difference between the B12 and 16 on the felt website and decide if that is a $1000 difference to you. I love my felt. It fits me perfect and you can ride it pretty aggressive if you wish.

Buy the one that fits you best.  I went to my fitting with no brand loyalty, just a price range.  I ended up with a Felt B12 (2008 model) as it fit the best.

I love the bike.  I have almost 10k miles on it now and have done 2 IM's on it.

Plus everybody rides a Cervelo, be different.

I went with the P2 and I love it. I did lots of research and figured that for the money, the P2 was the best bang for my buck.

I know that everyone says that everyone rides one, but to me, theres a reason for that. The reason being quality, not herd mentality (although Im sure that plays some role)

I ride a P2 and love it.  That being said both are very nice bikes.  I would buy the one that you think looks best since they both fit you and look for used deals for your racing wheelset.

both are good bikes.

Wheels and cranks can be swapped out on both.

If everything else is equal and both fit the same, then get the one you like the looks of better or the one you can get a better deal on.

I've got a P2.  Not everyone rides them...come on.

Okay, they do, but guess what...there's a reason for that!  Hmph!

The Felt is an awesome bike and if it had fit me better, I would have bought a B2.  I rode an S32 before my P2.

If you honestly like both exactly the same (which I find very hard to believe) I would go with whichever one you like the looks of better.  I like my P2 because I like red.  You'll find very similar quality between the two.  I think overall the P2 has a little bit more stiff bottom bracket, so if you're a bigger rider, then it may be a better choice.  The frame is more aero on the P2, but you will never notice the difference it's so small.

I fell in love with the B12 becuase of how the rear brake calipers are 'hidden'.  It is pretty unigue.  When I see 2000 bikes in T1, I just look for the one without rear brake calipers.  ;-)

Both are great bikes.  I just got the p2 and like it alot.  However, get the one you like looking at and will enjoy riding.  They are so close in many ways and you can upgrade components.  But, if you like the looks of the B12, get it.

NOT riding a P2 because you think everyone rides a cervelo is worse than riding a cervelo because you think everone rides one.  To rule something out, that may be a superior buy, simply b/c it is popular is pretty petty.

That being said, the P2 is a better buy than the B-12.  Its just more bike for the money, or as much bike for less money.

Whether or not you want to step down to the B 16 and save some $ is another topic, but as for P2 vs B-12.........its p2 > B-12

Relax, people are joking about everybody riding a Cervelo hence the red font.

To the OP buy the bike that fits you the best.  If the fit is equal buy the one you like the best.  As for if the P2 is a better bike than the B12 that is debatable.  They both have their pro's and cons and you can't go wrong with either.

I like the way you put this...because when you break it down, if the fit is the same, the subtle differences between a P2 and a B12, or a B12 and a B16 are very minor...but if you save $1000 and can now get a power meter...that can make a huge difference.

I ride a P2 and love it.  There is a reason so many people ride P2, but buy which ever one suits you the best.

No, it happend about 2 years ago.....about a month after I got the bike!  Fortunately the lady that hit me had insurance and they paid to replace the bike so I got the exact bike.  (yeah, they love me at my LBS)    The insurance company wanted the old bike but when I asked the agent what they were going to do with it she said "take it to the dump".  I nearly choked.  While the bike was "totataled" many of the components were only slightly scratched.  I gave them the bike but...well, lets say I have a few 'spare parts' for my new bike.
