Juast an FYI.  The WTC is launching the "Ironman 70.3" series with a World Championship race in Clearwater, Fl starting in 2006.  All halfs run by the WTC will now be called Ironman 70.3s.

I noticed some adds in triathlete magazine that just said 70.3 in big block numbers and I guess that's what it was for.  "70.3" is an alright name for the half...it certainly sounds better than a "half ironman", which implies you are not quite there yet!  At least that's how I feel....hehehe

I saw that 70.3 ad and couldn't figure it out.   Hmmmm now it makes sense.  Hasn't built up that mistique yet.

I like half ironman better...now I know exactly how far I am supposed to move my body on Sunday....and for some reason that just made it seem harder.  With HIM...I could live in DENIAL!

AARRRRRRRRRGH!

70.3 is the dumbest thing I've ever heard of. What do you tell people, "Dude I just did an Ironman 70.3!" They'll think you've just bought a radio station or something.

I won't be putting a 70.3 sticker on my car! I commend anyone who completes a half, I've done 2, but I am one of those crazies who will go as far as there are races. 104.6 all the way.

Have any of you heard of the Double Iron Race? I think you have something crazy like 36 hours to complete!?

There is always the Ultra Man in Kona Thanksgiving weekend

Day 1- 10 k swim (yes that is 6.2 miles in the water), followed by a 90 mile bike
Day 2- 170mile bike (maybe shorter I can't remember exactly)
Day3- Double Marathon from Hawi to Kona (yep 52.4 miles)

There are a few double and triple iron distance races around the world, and there's even a deca iron race held about every two years, most recently just last year in Hawaii.  Here's a race report from one of the finishers:

http://www.usaultratri.com/images/EileenSteilDeca2004.pdf

There has even been a double-deca ironman (yes, that's 20 times the ironman distance...no kidding).

Wherever there's extreme, there's more extreme.

There is a double in Virginia. It's is my plan to finish one sooner or later. I am trying to get my buddies to train with me but they think it's crazy. Haley if you do it, I'll do it with you. We just have to find a training plan first. I asked my coach about it and he said "Why don't you try going faster in your IMs first". So I gave it up for next year, but maybe 2007

I will DEFINATELY consider it. It definately won't happen next year. 2007 might be doable but I am scared I'll get burned out too soon. I'm only doing my first full this year!

I've read about the one in Virginia, thats where I first heard about it.

I would NEVER do the 20x's iron distance. Now THAT is crazy (10 years later...shes doing it...)

I can safely say that I never want to do anything more than an Ironman. It's huge, and it's recognizable, and it steals enough time from the family.

Rocket - 1) The Ultraman is invitation, only and 2) The second bike and the double-marathon are both on the second day.

LOL don't get too confused when you think your race is over and you're still on your bike, 36 miles short of the finish line!
