I finally made it out to the Course, and did the 94km, plus 8 at the start due to some navigational issues (lets call that the un nessary warm up),,,, I found it started out nice and easy, then I got out of the parking lot. The first 35 km was, to me rolling hills with the steep ones thrown in every now and again. The #35 High way was wicked, long rollers and some good climbs but I felt fast,,, at the 70 km mark I still felt good tired but good,,, towards the end once back on North Protage road is where I realize why this was no your adverage ride in the park so to say. Th once nice rolling 35kms at the start turned in to ,,,,why the hell am I doing this,,, those short really steep hills one after another took there toll,,,,on a good note the last 4km I found relitively refreshing and not so bad,,,,I pick up the cadence hoping to have some "fresher" feeling legs once I hit the parking lot,,,that didnt work,,,,Any way I averaged 33km/hr and  learned I need more food,, 2 gels, 3 packs of gu chomps, 2 cliff bars, and 3 liters of water were gone by 85km and at 92 I really wanted a drink. Ithink it was well worth the drive and time on the bike and suggest it to everyone, for sure. Hope this may help someone out there,,,see ya on the 12,,,,OH one last thing I think the TREK TTX 9.9 I picked up last week was worth every penny. Happy Training

Getting excited!! We registered for the athlete banquet on Friday! Hope to see some of you there.

Feeling a little undertrained.  A nagging heel issue has my run volume lower than usual but, you know what? It's still gonna be great! :D

Time to start watching the weather like a hawk (I know it won't do any good)! Right now it looks like i need to pick up arm warmers!

I am with you on the feeling under trained.  My bike volume is so low, and last week I took sick... Terrified of the bike course, just sayin'... Its going to be a long day but I have been looking foreward to it all summer...

A few of my thoughts on the bike course after pre-riding it.  Take it easy at the start until the turn off onto Dwight Road.  It's rollers but it trends down in this area.  There is one big downhill (wheeeeeeee) but you have to climb it on the way back.

From Dorset to Baysville is long gradual climbs and decents.  This is where you can put your head down and crank it.  Just keep some reserves because past Baysville you are back into big rollers and the trend is uphill.

With about 8KM left you get to go up that fun downhill except it is not so much fun anymore

GPS info is here if you want to take a look.  http://connect.garmin.com/activity/46401537 (note I made one wrond turn and rode a little over 1KM too far)

Ride hard but ride smart and you will be OK.  There are plenty of hills on the run so be sure to leave some gas in the tank!

Thanks for the input...sounds like there are not a lot of monster climbs.

Long rolling hill I can handle better than the steep climbs, they trash my legs too fast.

Hopefully the weather will cooperate now!!

There are a few shorter steep climbs and the killer climb at the end is pretty steep too but I wouldn't say there are a lot of them.

So far looks cool and partly cloudy!  As long as it isn't a 45C humidex I'll be happy

I agree. I rode it twice and the middle section is not that bad if you go in thinking it's really terrible.  I am using my road bike which has a triple chain ring and i used the 'granny' gear three times on the route all in the last part ... there's one deceptive climb on South Portage where my fiance saw a girl do a clipped in fall-over the first year of the race so i've mentally captured that one in my mind and then coming back on lollypop stick a couple that were fun to go down on the way out are just sucky when you're just sooooo close! Like turning off of South Portage (forget the road name)

Anybody ride in the last couple of weeks? Are there still construction patches on the 35?

I was there on Friday and I don't remember any construction with the exception of the bridge outside of Dorset but the race doesn't go that direction.

There was some construction going on at Muskoka Road 3 on the run course but it looked like it would be done in a week.

Excellent, when we went in mid august there were two patches where they pulled up the pavement. It was short but a little scary with the fast-moving traffic and fast bikes that don't like to be on dirt!

Does anyone know if there is a dress code for this banquet or if anyone has previous experience, what is appropriate attire??  Thanks and looking forward to this weekend!

Proper attire based on the dinner in 2008 is whatever you find comfortable (the usual standard of wearing an impressive t-shirt or hat from a previous race applies). Very casual.

Checking the weather forecast every couple of hours. Looks like we will biking with 12-15 C and running with 15-17 C. Winds of 10km/hr is not bad. POP 60% 1 to 3 mm. Still deciding what not to wear. Good luck to everybody.

I bought some arm warmers and I am hoping that's enough ... we'll see. I am thinking of keeping a long sleeve shirt to throw on in transition.  Tough call.

Wishing all of you the best of luck in the race this year.

For those wondering about what to wear, I certainly think the arm warmers is the way to go.  Will keep you warm, and if you get too warm then simply roll them down - perfect for both bike and run.  I wouldn't bother with a long sleeve top.
