Doing Jorge's Cycling plan (thanks again Jorge, its working GREAT!) and did my 3rd LT test yesterday.  The results are thusly:

                        Test 1               Test 2              Test 3
Avg. HR:             163                  163                  163
Avg. Spd:           21.16               21.66              22.19

My HR remained the same for the tests, and from my understanding it should most likely be going UP (closer to my max HR).  Is there something weird going on?  I've done each test feeling like I had NOTHING left at the end and all were 30 min. tests.  Food the night before was similar, similar sleeping, same warm up, etc.

I've only looked at Jorge's cycling plan once so I don't have it memorized, but how far apart were these tests?

WHile your LT HR has not gone up, you have gotten faster.  This shows that you are becoming more efficient.

I have had similar experiences in both my Bike and Run LT Tests, where at times my Av. HR has even decreased but my distance/speed have improved.

In each of my LT tests I have felt that I have given it all I've got, so I think pushing to a higher bpm has much to do with overall fatigue, nutrition etc.  In my last LT tests I felt fresher when I started and was able to bump my HR up a couple of beats.  However, as mentioned, bpm is not the only measure of improvement.  In my opinion speed and efficiency play a bigger part.  I have done 5 LT tests this year on both Bike and Run, and only in my last round of tests did I see my average HR go up (and only by 1 or 2 bpm).  My speed/efficiency has definitely improved though.

As said before, that's good! Your body is basically working at the same intensity, but you are going faster.

Just wondering, why would you be expecting your HR to go up? Wouldn't you want to keep your HR the same, so as to leave only one variable to be subject to change between tests?(i.e. your speed)

If it isn't obvious already, I haven't done the LT tests.

I am EXTREMELY happy with my improved speed/power over the past 10 weeks.  By my understanding of how the body works, the higher your LT HR is (the closer it is to your maximum heart rate) the more efficient your body is and the higher your heart rate can be while still maintaining a "workable" speed.

Thank you for the responses, I just wanted to know if this has happened to anyone else.

P.S. the LT tests were 4 weeks between test 1 and test 2, and 5 weeks from 2-3
