Subject: Bike Headlights for Commuting
I want to start commuting to work once or twice a week. It is a combination of unlit trail (paved) and probably sidewalks/ shoulder of road. I don't want to spend several hundred $$$ for a light but need something that is bright that isn't easily over-ridden. I would be getting on the trail about 5:00am. Any recommendations for a good light?

I use a headlight I got for ~$35 online a year or so ago. It's not fancy, but it does the job. I bought it because it had a rechargeable battery pack. I think it has a halogen bulb and it has 2 brightness modes. I don't see it at Nashbar anymore.

I notice there are now a 10W headlights for cheap ($70 or under). At that price, I'm tempted to upgrade. I think a single 10W system is plenty for commuting.

You'll also want to make sure you have a good taillight. It's probably more important for your safety than a headlight. And wear something reflective. I wear an Illuminite vest and have reflective stickers on my helmet.
