This site is great:

http://www.fitday.com

It's free, and you can track your calories every day and it keeps a record.  It is a little hard to get used to at first (especially finding the foods you want to enter) but after you get used to it it's a breeze.  If something's not exactly listed, usually you can just find a substitute that's close enough, otherwise, there is also a function where you can enter your own foods.

It'll also give you an estimate of calories burned based on data that you enter, which is pretty cool.

If you're feeling really adventurous, and ready for some constructive criticism, you can even make it public, and then other people can take a look at it.  Check it out.

I use Diet & Exercise Assistant on my PDA. It's a handy little piece of software.Otherwise fitday is a great free resource.

I signed up for Fitday. It is a little cumbersome and I am still learning my way around but for the price it gives me a way to monitor things. Thanks! I am down 5 pounds from where I started in April!

I 've been using it for about a month.  Like it.  But cringe. when I review it..... What the hell was it like a year ago when I ate whole pizzas,  10 tacos, a BIG bowl of Ice Cream with chocolate syrup and many Bagels with CREAM CHEESE........ Good grief.

My wife is getting a kick at me logging in my food after each meal. My teenagers think I have cracked! I keep telling them that my 6 packs are there - they are just covered with a blanket of fat! Fitday is geting eaiser and of course the longer I go the more the food repeat. I'm doing pretty good so I should shed some pounds here soon.

BellinghamSpence - your diet a year ago sounds like me now...maybe I should try fitday as well. I really need to keep track of everything I'm eating because I have a tendency to think that something "doesn't count" if other people are eating it too!

The reall difference in my diet is two fold. 1. Skip the fries and soda. The are ugly calories. #2. Turn my back on the junk food. We keep a container in the fridge with cleaned carrots in it. In the past when I was hungry I would grab some junk food (mostly chips). Now I grab a handfull of carrots. It is amazing as it seems to do the trick. Of course I still have about 20 pounds to drop!

Great ideas! Here are a couple of mine that have helped....

1. If you feel hungry, instead drink a full glass of water and wait 20 minutes. Many times our bodies confuse hunger with thirst. If you are still hungry 20 minutes later, then have a small, healthy snack.

2. Eat 5-6 smaller meals per day. This really can't be said enough. I used to "save up" all my food for dinner, and chow down then. I actually gained weight this way, because my body thought I was starving, so it saved fat reserves.

3. If you have a major ice cream craving like I do most of the time, try Skinny Cow ice cream sandwiches. They are already portion controlled for you, are low in fat, and not too bad on calories. I always keep them stocked in the fridge.

Congrats on your weight loss, keep it up!
