Someone mentioned loving the transitions in the 'running gets no love' thread and it reminded me of a comment made during T2 at a race one time that still makes me laugh thinking about it.  It was to the effect of "I thought the water was cold but D@MN! I should have kept the wetsuit on for the bike too!".  It was one of those blanket comments where he was just saying it aloud and others in the transition area just chimed in with comments like "it probably would have helped with this rain".  I know it's not the most hilarious thing, but at the time we were all suffering and any humor was welcome.

Does anyone else have any quick conversations they recall having or hearing in the transition area during the race?

When a friend of our family did Irongirl Columbia last year I yelled at her during her T2, "Races are lost in transition, get a move on!"

She later told me that she was a little pooped from the ride and was sitting to put her socks on and heard me.  It lit a fire under her and she sped up to get out of the transition and thanked me for it!

When I was entering T1 my dad said "Go faster" as I was trying to take off my wetsuit.
I will never forget that because I am so slow at taking the wetsuit off.
He sort of ticked me off but I had a pretty fast T1 so maybe it helped : )

My Wife, Mom, Mother-in law and Aunt all screaming at me from just a few feet away yelling "wooohoooo look at that hottie. Damn you've got a nice body, woooohhhhooooo gooooo Nicky!!!"

Yeah, pretty embarrasing.

The volunteer leaving T2 that asked me if running with my bike helmet (which I forgot to take off) helped me run faster.

It's not so much a conversation but one of my friends didn't know that transition time was included in your total time the first time he did a tri. During either T1 or T2 he pulled out peanut butter, jelly and bread and proceeded to make himself a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and offering anyone that ran by one as well. He couldn't understand why everyone was in such a hurry and people were looking at him like he was crazy!

A couple summers ago now, I was doing a sprint tri.  My husband was injured so he was my cheerleader - and in his mind I really needed to beat his little sis who was also racing.  I have long hair and can not stand running with it in my face on a hot day, and as I was coming out of T2 my arms were not cooperating and I couldn't get my hair back in a ponytail to save my life.  My loving hubby sees me and screams "Hey!  This isn't a beauty pageant.  Forget the hair and get a move on it!!"

It still makes me laugh thinking about it.  In fact, my current avatar was taken as I was laughing after he said this to me.

I did a HIM race that had separate T1 and T2 . When I got to T2, the guy with the rack right next to mine, who I hadn’t seen since we headed off to swim start almost four hours earlier rolled in less than a minute behind me, just as I was getting out of my bike shoes. He said, “Hey, we should start training together!”

I was spectating the Mooseman HIM (did the oly the day before.  The water was cold in the 50s).  Watch a guy apparently not from the New England area, struggling to take off his sleeveless wetsuit.  He seems hypothermic so I kept an eye on him.  His hands were shaking so much he couldn't put his socks on.  So I yelled over to him, told him to sit down so that he wouldn't fall, and told him to eat something to get some energy.  He replied "I would like a hot cup of coffee or hot chocolate".  Sorry, can't help you.

That's hillarious!!!
This isn't funny, but when I came into T2 in Boise 70.3 last year, hypothermic from the cold rain, a young girl (volunteer) followed me to my rack and told me she would help me put my bike stuff in the bag...I was able to get my helmet off and my run shoes on...she asked if there was anything else she could do for me...I told her my hands were so numb I couldn't tie my shoes (I'll have speed laces this year). She said of course and off I went. My family called her my little angel....Tom

Nothing too great but on my first tri I ran out of T2 straight onto the bike course.  Everyone was yelling at me (I just thought it was motivation) and a volunteer finally told me I was  going the wrong way =\

In T2 at Savageman 70.3 (which has a BRUTAL bike course), I was sitting down changing shoes wondering how I was going to run 13.1 after all that climbing had trashed my legs and apparently looking like death warmed over.  My wife on the sidelines said:

"Dude - and you want to do a full ironman???  Aren't you, like, less than half way right now."

I got up and had a great (relatively) run.

This morning we raced in severe storms, flooding, (state of emergency as of right now in many towns) and horrible, pouring rain. While putting my bike in the transition area we heard thunder and the lady next to me with a P3 looks at me, smiles and says "Thank God it's carbon!"

At Augusta last year (my first HIM) I had a conversation in T2 with a girl on my rack about whether or not I should squat and pee right there on the ground.  I had read about folks doing this before, so I thought it was commonplace.  She looked at me, laughed and said, "Um, I'll be going to the port-o-john."  I was shamed into following her.

Haha, that's awesome.  It's amazing how many people have no idea how conductive carbon is... did you let her go on believe she was safer on it than an aluminum bike?

I smiled, chuckled and thought "hey, she's taller than me anyways, if anybody's getting hit..." haha Tongue out

Summer of 2008, I did HIM in Racine Wisconsin.  The water temperature in Lake Michigan was 54 degrees.  When I got into TI I was shivering uncontrollably.  I was having trouble making my hands do what I wanted, thus having trouble getting out of my wet suit.  A guy in my rack noticed and said  to me "Sit down and put your legs up."
After I complied...he proceed to pull the wet suit off my legs.  (I am forever thankful
