Subject: Poll: Best place to spend Bike $ for HIM set up
Hello, I am doing first HIM this summer. Would like to keep on doing them and some aquabikes, as I must retire from marathoning with crumbly knees.   I have a Lemond Buenos Aries, professionally fitted for Tri position with slap on aerobars.  Hubby says I could get a new bike!!!   However, I am a frugal person, and I like this Lemond.

Here's the question for my poll:   Should I:  A) invest in Zipp wheels for current or B: go for least expensive Carbon Fiber tri bike with Ultegra?   Or what's the 3rd option?

Here, read this.  It's a great read:

It breaks down $ for $ where you can make the greatest changes to see the most benefit.

To answer your poll, I wouldn't put Zipp's on a converted road bike, I personally would invest in the bike now and upgrade the wheels later.  Though one possible solution would be to get a Hed3 front and wheelbuilder.com wheel cover.  Will run you ~$500 for that setup.

If you are happy with your position on your bike then I would suggest:

1)  Powermeter (I would go with a Powertap laced to an Open Pro)
2)  Disc cover for the rear wheel
3)  Aero helmet if it works for your position
4)  Deep front (Hed Jet 60/90, Flashpoint 60/80, SRAM 60/80)

I'd be leary recommending something so deep, we know nothing about the OP biking pace.  I thought the HED H3 be better for all around performance (if you believe HED website on the Yaw angle drag #'s)?

I should have included the Hed3 in my list of deep fronts as it would be a good choice (provided it mates well with the fork).  In general I would say a 50-60mm front and disc wheel will be good for most triathletes but a 80-90mm is going to be slightly faster and in most conditions, the H3 will be slightly faster again.
