I guess I should have put a "Caution/Squeamish Graphic Image" warning on this.

Yes, I fumbled it as I was removing it from my bike mount, did the slow motion oh-no juggle and watched her bounce on the pavement.  Bummer.  And this one is less than a month old, just had it replaced under warranty because my first one had the wrong-date problem that Garmin is struggling with.

I assume that I don't have any chance of getting warranty work on this?

It still works but I'm sure the first exposure to rain/sweat and she will die a quick death.

Anyone know the cheapest source for replacement?  I can't live without my Garmin.

Bummer. That's why I like $3 sunglasses, although that's not much help here.  Cry

Call Garmin. They'll probably work with you for a refurb model.

I like his idea.  Maybe say it was ejected from the bike mount and see what they do.

Hmmm, I couldn't do that...personal philosophy on honesty and truthfulness.  I'm a strong believer in Karma.....Garmin was not at fault and shouldn't suffer a loss because of my clumsiness. But thanks for the suggestion...creative.

I know the feeling...my puppy turned my 305 into a chew toy a month ago.

Call and ask for parts, or surf eBay for someone with a dead but not busted one.

Looks like you just need a new housing.

Call Garmin, if you send that one back they will hook you up with a refurbished one, I bet about half price.  I had to send my 310xt because the gps stopped working.  I also have an old edge 305 that is a few years out of warranty that the mode button stopped working.  They said they would replace it for $70.

Hmm. My 305 popped out of the bike mount once while I was riding slowly in a parking lot. It just bounced and has been working fine ever since. I'm sure I've bounced it around once or twice more since then. Disappointing to see that the 310 is so fragile.

Maybe you could take it to one of those windshield crack repair places and trade them a six pack of beer to try and seal the face of your watch?

Just a note, my suggestion was in no way a suggestion to be dishonest. Seriously call Garmin and tell them what happened. They will probably hook you up with a refurb one for quite a bit less than you'll find one anywhere.

I agree with you, I would just tell them what happened and see where it went from there.

I would call garmin also.

Even though I haven't opened a 310xt, it's likely that the outside casing could be replaced and you could swap the guts into a new case. That may be another option. It looks like it still works from your picture, just cracked on the outside.

I agree with calling the company and honestly explaining to them what happened.

For the future, and especially for those who have yet to buy one, get these watches from REI where they have a lifetime warrenty and actually have covered this type of problem for me with a Polar watch, a Garmin watch, a Garmin handheld GPS and Yakima rack.  Gotta love REI.

Another vote for calling Garmin and telling them what happened.  Their customer service rocks and I bet they'll help you out.

I would call also.  If you send yours in, they may just replace the housing also for a fee....there's nothing dishonest about that.

Call or email Garmin. Seriously.  My 3+ year old 305 Forerunner finally died about 2 weeks ago.  Saw some water under the display and the next day during a ride it went absolutely bonkers.  Then it quit and would never come back up.  I sent an email to their Client Service group and they said to send it back with a check/money order and they shipped me a refurbished one.  All for $79 plus shipping and handling.  Best deal ever!!!!  The whole transaction took less than a week.  Totally worth it.

The 310XT 'I broke it and admit to it' fee is currently $100, via Garmin...just FYI.  This includes cracked crystal replacement.

(Which, btw, is still a heck of a lot cheaper than buying a new one)

Just call their normal support number and they'll take care of you.
