Subject: Wheel set advice needed?
I just purchased an Elite T Class Tri bike and love it!  However, This is the only bike I own and I think I'm in need of a wheel set for training, while I use the current wheels I have for race day events.

What is a good durable wheel set type and brand.  There are so many different types out there my head is spinning.  I am 6'4 215, so I need a fairly durable set.

Thanks in advance.

If you want a good set of training wheels that there isn't any better IMHO then having some hand built with MAVIC Oprn Pro Rims laced to Ultegra 6700 Hubs with 32 14/15 gauge spokes in 2X pattern. They cost around $300-350 and will last a long time

I agree with everything here, except I'd go with a 3x pattern on the rear wheel (closer to a tangential pull on the drive spokes = less wind-up). I've got some Mavic Open 4cd rims (the pre-cursor to the Open Pro) in wheels which I built myself that are going on 15 years riding. They're as close to bullet-proof as you can get.

Look at these for training:

I have the Shimano and they have stayed true over 1000's of miles and I'm 235.  I may buy a set of the mavic's or the nuevation.  all three sets can be bought for basically less than $250 bucks online.

I bought some Neuvations on end of year clearance. R28SL5 front, R28SL6 rear - about 1500g and $299 for the set. They ride nice and have stood up to all the post-winter potholes here in PA so far. John at Neuvation responded quickly to all my questions about the various wheels in his inventory. They are a pretty basic, traditional-looking bike wheel. Of course, you also can't go wrong with the tried and true Mavic Open Pro's with Ultegra hubs like someone else said. I had similar setups on a couple old bikes and with very little maintenance that stuff just lasts forever. BTW, congratulations on your Elite; those bikes are absolutely sick! The guy who got 2nd overall in my HIM last year was riding one and the build and finish were just awesome.

x2 on the neuvations - I have m28s on my road bike. I paid $250 for them last spring and I haven't had to true them since I got them - around 4,000 miles so far.

X3 Neuvation. I ride M28 Aero-3's. Bombproof, stylish ... fast and relatively light. Great training wheel. If mine crapped out, they are cheap enough that I would not freak out ....I'd actually like a reason to upgrade to R28 Aeros ...  but they just keep on rolling.
