Hijack:
I asked my SO this question (I was shocked she'd never heard of Desert Island Discs!) and she came up with 8 really good ones that I can't live without. Totally different from mine. And then she sat there going "No, I'd need to swap one for Breakfast in America...and one for...no wait...you said just eight???"
I can't believe I left the Joshua Tree off my list! Argh!
I have a seriously hard time narrowing down the top 100 albums I can't live without. Eight is just...nearly undoable. I am so comforted that Frank can build us coconut radios, although I really wouldn't mind swimming from island to island.

You wanna see eclectic? http://cdlist.onlinea.com/
[Please forgive the programming bugs, this was a 5-minute throw-together to organize our albums.] It doesn't have operas on there yet, and is about 40 albums behind. I really need to update it.
Anyway, you see why this was such a problem for me. Other people do drugs. I buy music. Interesting thought about the electicism of music choices reflecting the multisport idea....

Hey, eclectic people -- do any of you own Eartha Kitt's "That's Miss Kitt To You?" (yeah, laugh if you want). PM me....

Hijack over.

I hear ya. Looking at my list I keep thinking "I can't BELIEVE there's no Rolling Stones on there!", "Where's the soundtrack to 'The Passion of Joan of Arc'?", "What? No Neko Case?", "Damn, I'd want that Leftover Salmon, too. Oh and that other Leftover as well.", etc., etc., etc.

I would have loved to put some Howard Jones, Tom Jones, Stanley Jordan, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Frank Zappa or even Cake on my list - but I tried to pick albums where I really liked every song. Though I wouldn't mind trading the Bach disc for a Keb' Mo' disc (Keep it Simple)... Besides, if I can swim to someone's island to play their guitar, I'll play the violin concerto for myself. Really, would I do if the skip button on my coco-disc-man crapped out? I'd have to listen to crappy music for a few minutes. Not gonna happen

And Scott, I'd have to install the intra-island coco-phone system first in order to schedule a 3 day slot to install your drop for RADIO-COCO(tm).

My Sea Turtle necklace made out of an abalone shell (although I'd probably have time to make my own)

somebody PLEASE put Linkin Park - Meteora on your list... i forgot it... i don't think i can live without it...

I thought about that one, but it's too short (30-couple minutes). I might be persuaded to leave the Prince album at home for that one.... Hmm...
