Subject: no swim warmup questioned answered
hi everyone, here's what my triathlon coach wrote in response to the question of, "what to do w/no warmup before a race?"

Hi Lu,

Occassionally there will be races that do not allow swim warmup
and some races you may simply choose not to do a swim warm up
due to the water temp and the negative effects of decreasing you
core body temp. I would suggest that you do a light spin on
your bike and a light jog as a warmup. This will get the blood
flowing nicely. If you are overly concerned with your arm
flexibility and muscle response, you could also consider taking
some elastic resistence bands and doing a few swim stroke
exercises to warm up your upper body. Don't be to concerned
about the lack of a swim warmup...remember, no one else can do a
swim warmup either so you are all in the same boat...plus with
your swim background you should have a great advantage on
roughly 75-80% of the other athletes who typically have minimal
swimming experience and lack a strong swimming foundation.

I hope this helps!
