Subject: How long will it last?

I raced my first 1/2 ironman last weekend.  Now I'm tired, physically and mentally.  My drive is gone.  I really don't feel like doing much of anything and a little "blue" too.  I've dedicated the last 8 months to this Tri.  It consumed me.  I just don't know what to do now.

Have you experienced this and how long does it last?

Thanks,

Randy

This is so incredibly common there are actual chapters in books about it.  You'll be fine.....take the rest you need for the physical part, then get back to some regular training, perhaps set your next goal....the mental part will take care of itself, and it won't take long. Honestly.

Congrats, Blacktoe! I think its time for you to take a little beercation. Seriously, you really need some time just to recover; you've been through a lot.

Do you have any other shorter races scheduled for the rest of the season?

I did my first half the end of May and I'm still in a funk of some kind.  Sometimes I have good workouts but a lot of the time I fell like  I'm going through the motions.

I know exactly what you mean about gearing up for 8 months (I did 6) and then its done.  I read everything possible about that race.  Now I have another half July 31 and I just tried to find info on the bike profile.  Hopefully I'll get it together in the next month.

Hang in there!

happened to everyone i know (including myself)
it helps to set a new goal, but i don't think a bit of post-race depression can be avoided.

unfortunately, i have a feeling the longer the event and the training the stronger the depression...

Congrats on your first 1/2. Weren't you doing Pac Crest? You should be tired. That's a heck of an accomplishment.

Take it easy for the next week. Catch up on things. Spend time with family and friends. Go for walks and maybe do some easy riding - bike path / cruise the neighborhood / go to a coffee shop kind of riding - to keep the blood flowing.

If you plan on doing more races, reflect back on your training and the race. What went right? Where did you stumble? What would you do different?

Then get back at it.

BTW, isn't that a gorgeous course? I love the swim venue, and the bike course. How about the color of Devil's Lake right before you start the final climb? That emerald green is almost hypnotic.
