Skippy74 - 2010-08-17 7:01 PM Definitely looking forward to a closed course!!!

On the run I just hope I still have enough brain cells left to figure out the numbers=which race thingSurprised

x2.  For the last 4 miles or so of IMKY I had just one thought on my mind:  cookies.  Everything I looked at I had to check again to be sure it wasn't a cookie.  I can just see it now:  "That person is wearing number 2009.  Or was that 2-cookie-cookie-9?  I better check again."

I am with you there.
I hate races that don't have cookies.
I refuse to sign up to redo a race that didn't have chocolate chip cookies available after the race.
Am I asking too much?

Just watch out for this guy. He gets nasty when you mess with his cookies

Hello

OK I will be waiting at the cookie table.   Since I am doing the AquaBike I should be there first and will keep the non-racers away from the goodies buffet line.

Received an e-mail about shipping the bikes. Started freaking out, thinking the race was in 2 weeks. Realized I skipped a month and now feel much better. Date is still coming quickly.

Wow

That ride video kind of made me dizzy.

I did check the MB tide charts today and the day of the race high tide is at 400-430 am so we will be racing with the out going tide.  My thoughts are that we may have to swim some against the tide to hit the turn point before heading back down the waterway to the swim finish.  Looks like it will be borderline wetsuit legal if the average water temps hold true.

I have a buddy that works @ the marina/hotel and was talking w/ him a week or so ago. I told him I was concerned about the current & that swimming against the current could really suck. He told me the swim start will begin at the location that will allow for the least upcurrent swim distance. In other words, they may start the swim course at the finish area on the provided map if the current is more favorable to swimmers.  I plan on drifting in the waterway with my  Garmin 310 and will post the current speed. Looking forward to the event.

Can you do it at night with a spotlight and give us a "Gator Count"?

Any idea on current water temp??  I've seen several places where people are questioning if it will be wetsuit legal...and I have to decide what to wear if it's NOT wetsuit legal---hmmmmm

Doesn't have the current temp but this link makes it look like it will be legal.

Right now, I think it will be close.  Historically, Charleston is just slightly warmer than MB, and right now, Charleston is a lot warmer than average (nearly 89 degrees, as opposed to the historical average this time of year of 82).  True, 'current temp'
can contain lots of error, but other East Coast locations for which data are available (Kiptopeke, Daytona) are also warmer than average (albeit by less).  That's the bad news (for those of us who can't swim).  The good news is that late Sept early Oct is when things cool off pretty dramatically, historically, so there's still a chance.  I don't think we'll have a good read on this until the week of the race, if then.

I'm not sure where the MB station is that they take these temps.  I believe that the ICW can be slightly warmer than the temps on the beach (if taken, say, 100 yards out), so that's another variable to consider.

Bottom line:  I won't count on wetsuit legal, but I'll sure be pleased if it is!

On another note:  I was just able to view the video of the bike and run courses.  Nice!  It confirms what I had thought:  flat and fast!  The closed course is going to be awesome.

Yeah not counting on wetsuit legal so just trying to figure out what to wear---want something that I can wear the whole time---I usually just wear one piece trisuit under the wetsuit but don't think the one I have will do well for the swim...hmmmmm

And yeah the course is near where I've stayed in the past and ummm yeah flat is about right---at least for the run and other then bridges/fly over type stuff I don't think there can be much on the bike either (I watched the video but hard to say for sure if it's the area that I think it is.............).

Hello

I live in Mt P and on the Wando River. I have seen the water temps here in the high 70's as late as Thanksgiving so I would not plan on swimming in your wetsuit.

Regarding this race most likely not being wetsuit legal: Oh Fudge. Only I'm not saying Fudge.

Hello

Here is a link to the sea buoys.

http://www.wunderground.com/MAR/sem.html

You can get out the water data for yourself.

2 Oct 2009 the water temp was 79 at Wrightsville Beach, NC

We just need a good two to 5 day cool snap to drop the water temp down.

I'm doing the super super super short sprint race - still no long running for the knee bone.
We should all finish around the same time, I'll be hanging with my friend Velocity Chick,
a.k.a.  Carol (KeyOne).

Racing at NMB this morning (ocean swim) - 9/11 - they posted that water temp is 77.  So maybe in a few weeks the Waterway may be cold enough for wetsuits.  Although I hope not!!  Wink

I looked at the photos from the MB triathlon from this past weekend. It doesn't look like it was wetsuit legal. Does anybody know what the temp. was?

keyone - 2010-08-17 6:44 AM I was just looking over the course maps and noticed that there is also a quartermax and sprint race going on too. It looks like they are timed so all races finish at about the same time. Isn't that going to make the bike and run course crowded? And how will I know if some chick with a 49 on her leg passed me on the run, which race is she doing? Me no likie!

Nope,
This is barely a warm-up compared to Cozumel.
