Subject: i hired a coach?
for swimming anyway. went to the pool this morning to do 1250 yards. there is a woman who is also training who has been working with a coach. on wednesday it looked like they were doing TI stuff, which intrigued me. i asked the woman in training if it was TI, but she wasn't sure. i've been reading about it but struggling trying to figure it out on my own. anyway, the coach was there this morning so i asked her about it and yup, TI. the person she was supposed to coach this morning wasn't there, so she offered to work with me for half price for the hour. woo hoo! anyway, she normally has a client fridays (and 11 year old training for her first tri!), so she will be coaching us together for half price from now on! she worked almost exclusively with folks training for tris. wild. got some flippers too. isn't that expensive either, especially since i'll be splitting the fee with the 11 yr old. that helps, since we're not flush at the moment. didn't get any real laps in, so i may need to commit to doing 4 days at the pool each week (3 for laps, 1 for TI coaching).

Good call on getting a coach on the swim.  Seems like every week I am working on a correcting a bad habit that I self taught myself!

Good for you...it's always best to learn it right the first time. I can assure you that it is not money or time misspent.

I've only been swimming for one week (2 days) but tomorrow I have my first session with a swim coach I hired at the Y. Thought that I had better learn from them early before I teach myself some really bad habits. My question: I don't know if she's worked with anyone doing Tri's. Is there anything special I should ask her or is swimming swimming? Thanks

Just ask her if she has worked with triathletes before.
Ask her if she knows and what she thinks about the Total Immersion concepts.

You should look for someone with some tri experience, or they'll teach you to swim faster by kicking more, which you are trying to avoid in tris.

My 2 cents...
