I have the summer off from school so I have time to read something other than my anatomy textbook.  I'm a newb and haven't done my first tri yet so I don't need anything too technical, just a good read with insight.  Thanks!

I read "Triathlon 101" by John Mora.

It was a good read with a broad range of advice and some side-bar types of comments from other authors and athletes.

Triathlete Magazine's Complete Triathlon Book is a good start.

Just read "Triathlon 101" and it was a good read, gives you a good base to start Triathlon. I am now reading "The Triathlete's Bible" and it is a much more n depth book and much more technical. I think that it would be a good followup read once you have a base of knowledge from Triathlon 101.

Yeah i heard "The Triathlete's Bible" was really technical.  I'll end up reading it sometime, just kind of want something easy during my short break from school.

Check out Trizophrenia.  It is a hilarious look into what makes a Triathlete tick.  Written by Je Mallett.  He is a syndicated cartoonist who writes Frazz.  He is a Front-of-the-Pack age grouper with great insight into the sport.

I will give another vote to Triathlon 101 by John Mora. This book is a great read if you are just getting into the sport. Along with BT, this book got me to the start of my first race last year.

Looks like Triathlon 101 it is.  I'm a slow reader so if I finish that I'll read Trizophrenia.  Thanks for the suggestions!

My first race is in June and I'm using the training plan from "Triathlete Magazine's Guide to Finishing Your First Triathlon" - very basic information, but interesting reading.  I'm also reading "Complete Triathlon Book" from Triathlete Magazine, which is more in-depth.  I also enjoyed the update version of "Triathlons for Women.

Do what I did, go to your local library, and check them all out.

Advanced Marathoning by Pfitzinger-Douglas.

Or The Lore of Running by Noakes.

Because if I've learned anything being invloved in endurance sports for the last 20 years it is that triathletes know how to run even less than they know how to swim.

The book that I used when I began training for my first triathlon was Triathlon Training: In four hours a week by Eric Harr. I like the book because it written for those who have never done a triathlon and also gives advice for those ready to improve their race. Eric tells his own story of how he got into triathlon and then outlines the way to train for your first race. This book served me well for my first couple years of triathlon. I believe it does a nice job of balancing easy-to-understand reading with the necessary technical information. Now I'm ready to move on to The Triathlete's Bible by Joe Friel.

Whatever you do, don't get 'Your First Triathlon'.  You can get most of what's in there for free right here on BT.

You'll be happy to know the pages are quite small/bigger font and the book is littered with pictures.. you'll be thinking your a speed reader!

I am VERY new to this. So, I have been following this thread. Thanks for the advice. My 2 cents: Triathlon "Training for Dummies" has helped me out some. But, this website has been my best source!
Good Luck!

+1 on BT being the best resource.  I've read Triathlon 101 already and haven't really learned anything that I didn't or couldn't learn here.  Still a good read though.
