Subject: Charlotte Beginner Road Bike Class
Is anyone familiar with a beginner road bike class or club in the Charlotte area?  I haven't been on a bike in many years and I'm looking for something to assist with technique, training ideas and the like in a group setting.  Ideally, I'm looking for something similar to Run for Your Life's beginner run class.  Thanks.

Well not a class but there is a club that caters to the "B & C" riders.  The group is called the Bee Team and they ride out of Waxhaw.  http://www.thebeeteam.org/

My wife rode with them this spring getting ready for her half ironman (she is VERY novice when it comes to biking).  They do a easy 26-31 miles on Sundays afternoons and also do some longer options on Saturday morning.

She said they are a super nice group, lots of slower "older" folks and there are 2-3 different speed groups.   Very laid back group ride and my wife actually enjoyed going out with them on Sundays (and she hates riding).  She said people were always offering her advice, especially if you ask for it!

There's also a beginner's group ride organized by Bicycle Sport on Selwyn Ave.  They ride Saturday mornings and go about 25 miles. It's a no drop ride. The lead riders go about 16 mph.  Call the shop and ask for Katie and she can tell you more about it.

Thanks folks.  I purchased my first road bike today.  After a few weeks of fumbling around and hopefully not getting hit by, or hitting, any cars/pedestrians/trees/buildings, I'm off to one of these rides.  Thanks again.

Good luck!  And my CLT riding tip of the the day:  stay off the roads on Friday after work...people drive like retards on Friday (moreso that the rest of the week)!  Oh...and get yourself a blinky for the back and ALWAYS have it on when riding in town.

Thanks again.  I can confirm that riding a bike for the first time in 20+ years, on a relatively light bike, with clipless pedals, in CLT traffic, is indeed interesting.
