Oceanside 70.3 (Page 2)

It was my 1st Ironman and I made the mistake of not spinning my tires in the morning on my bike. Long story short my front brake pad was rubbing for the 1st 30 miles. My right eye started getting blurry half way through the ride and by the end of the ride both eyes were really blurry like someone had rubbed vaseline all over my sunglasses. I just thought it was my contacts getting dry so I tried replacing them with the help of an aid station worker and he looked at my eyes and told me it that my pupils were gray and it probably had nothing to do with my contacts. No one on the entire course knew what was wrong, even the people in the medical tent after the race had no clue. I followed people with bright colored clothes on during the run and then for the last 13 miles when it was dark I followed a guy by the name of Alfredo from Miami for a run walk. My finish line photo looked like he was leading a blind guy, it was pretty funny. When I was getting my highlight DVD the next morning a guy beside me said glad to see that you're feeling better and I said thanks. Come to find out it was Alfredo haha, I just hadn't ever seen him what he looked like. He was a great guy to lead me for 13 miles. I woke up the next morning and all was well, just some blood shot eyes but I could see. I think I had what's called a "cloudy cornea" and it has several causes but I'm sure it was from the brake pad rubbing.

So it is official....I am registered!  Oh my gosh!!!!  Yikes!!!

Way to go Anne Marie! You will rock it, I know it!

so when can we start training the ows portion?

I'm gonna make this my official first HIM come 2011. The price is expensive so i'll have to save up for it but i'm determined so i have to sign up before it sells out.

I hope the HIM training program on here is decent as i'll probably be following that plan...give or take some minor adjustments.

I haven't figured out which plan I will use yet either.  Don't wait too long to sign up!

Easier said then done...it's not the most expensive race i'm sure but it's not cheap. I'm hoping to pay up in July if all goes well.

How's the leg/foot?

This year didn't go too well, but I got some of my money back....   thinking about trying again in 2011.  Only my second time, but every time would have been with paul

I'm in for 2011!! It'll be a tune-up for IMCdA.  SOOO excited about training and racing in SoCal.  Hopefully 1 month from today I'm starting my road trip for the move to San Diego!

Just noticed that tomorrow starts a $25 increase in entry fee, bringing it to $300

I know what you mean.  I am waiting for my husband to notice the bank statement and choke me when he sees how much I paid to register.  Foot...not so good.  I am going to the doctor tomorrow.

I just signed up!  Both for the Oceanside 70.3 and for a BT account!

I'm training for an oly in early August (my first) and then the real training begins for the HIM which i'm looking forward to. I'm excited for this race and even more so knowing so many on this site will be in it. I'm heading down to SD this weekend to visit my brother and i'll probably check out the course and such for kicks.

I registered this is my First one. Can anyone help me with guidance I really want to qualify for Kona what do I have to do, How will I know if I am close to that goal?

First, what age group are you in? Second, what kind of training are you doing now? How fast are you swimming biking and running?

Short answer ... finish south of 4:30 and depending on the age group closer to 4:15.

You will have to win your AG or get a rolldown if those ahead of you don't want it (don't count on that).  Look at prior year's results to see what time you will need, but it will be way under 5

I'm very sad right now, because it seems I should have gone to the roll down....W45-49... ugh.

Welcome and congrats!  Looks like this is going to be a first for quite a few of us! I think you will find you love BT so helpful!  Be sure to use your logs...they are great!

Cool.  It looks like I only need to knock off about 3 hours off last year's time to get a slot.  I just need to move from 16/16 to 1/16.  Can I do it?  Yes, I can!  (Actually, no, I can't.)   Good luck and have fun training, everyone.

Thanks for the tips the goal sounds unattainable but I will do my best!

If I decide to do this race....I'm not qualifying unless they roll down A LOT of spots...lol

How can we tell how many have signed up (or how many can)?? I'm tryin to save up but don't want to cut it too close......

I think last year sold out late September ... if I recall correctly from reading the forums here.
