Anyone got the dates for these two races?  I sent an email to the director of Rip and did not get a response.   Enjoyed both races last year and was looking forward to doing them again.

Rip van Winkle is very much in doubt. First the former RD quit and dropped the race in my lap three weeks ago, now (unrelated to the RD quitting) the owner of the facility has refused our request to hold any race there, and has (so far) refused to take my telephone call to discuss what we would need to do to to have her change her mind. I sent here a detailed email explaining the circumstances and what we would be willing to do, and I'll probably give her the rest of the week to contact me before totally pulling the plug.

Last time I spoke with the RD of Sugarman it was still on, even though no date has been set. Last year it was in early October.

Sad News. Rip Van Winkle was my favorite venue. The races there were always nice.

Not now, but when the news is made public be sure you express your unhappiness to the owners. In a polite, constructive way, of course.

It may yet happen, but right now I'm not at all happy that she won't even discuss it with me.

Is the owner of the RIP facility new?  Wondering if any previous race problems or concerns she had were not met by the previous race director, or if the owner is just new and doesn't want to mess with a race.  Does the owner receive any compensation?  They may not feel that it is worth the trouble.    At any rate, very unprofessional and unfriendly to not return calls or emails.  I really enjoyed doing the race last year.  In fact it was probably my favorite of all.   I thought the swim venue was the most scenic of any OWS I have done.  The run on the pea gravel nursery was great.  I hope that the management of the property will reconsider.  There will defintely be a hole in my race schedule if this race falls through.

Same owner, there has been indications that she had problems/concerns that weren't met in the past, but again she will not discuss with me. Ditto with compensation. My understanding is that she is in the business of renting her place to the public for events (weddings, etc.) and tours, yet she won't answer my questions as to what would be fair compensation to hold a triathlon. I agree, not very professional or courteous at all. But it's her place, she can do with it what she wants. Again, maybe an email-writing campaign from triathletes who enjoyed the race in the past may get her attention. I'm giving here afew more days to resspond to me first.

Was a nice venue, but we are now considering others for our tri-club sponsored race. Suggestions welcome.

Maybe a bit ironic given the pairing in the title of the thread, but it looks like the Sugarman people are going to turn their race over to ur Tri Cajuns Club. Our target race date is October 3, and we should have registration open in a couple of weeks.

Awesome, I wanted to do this race last year.  It's right around my Bday so a nice present to myself.

Good luck.
