Hi, everyone! I'm not a beginner triathlete; I've been racing on and off since 1998, including Ironman South Africa (my first and only ironman distance event thus far). But, I wanted to be on this "TriSpot" because I coach a few beginners, including devising training schedules and such. I like to read posts and hear about people accomplishing their goals, like completing their first triathlon, whether it's a sprint, or an ironman. This site also seems to get a little more action in posts than some other sites do. Oh, and I get more motivation through discussions with beginners and intermediate triathletes than from advanced triathletes.

A little about myself? hmmm.. I was a chemist; now, I am a certified sports nutritionist, and I'm back in school for my Doctor of Pharmacy degree. Before all of that, I was in the US Army (Airborne) and finished my service in the US Navy as a Corpsman.

I have a few races lined up for this year, including the Great Buckeye 1/2 Ironman Distance. By the way, if anyone has already done this race, I'm soooo open for suggestions! I hope to hear from all of you, whether you would like to share your training/racing stories or anything else. Happy Training!

Hey welcome to the group! I agree with you on this site being user friendly. I've checked a few other boards, and this one is far and away the best as far as having lots of congenial people that are willing to support one another and cheer each other on. And all the suggestions and lessons learned from experiences while racing are invaluable. It's good to have someone with coaching experience here too. Post often and let us know how your races go!

Hi Teresa! Welcome to the group. I'm sure you'll find lots of interesting info for your beginners; I know I've learned a lot.

BTW, I was in the 82nd during the Gulf War I! Hoo-ah!

Ron: kudos! I studied for a short time with my professor at University. Nothing big, just working on projects in NMR and other physical chemistry things. It wasn't my passion, which is why I do what I do now.

I see you're in Akron! Sweet! You should drive over to Casear Creek to be my cheerleader. I'd like that very much! Any advice you want to give me?

i was gonna do the 1/2 pineman a little later than the buckeye but decided to get realistic since i started this season late and my wife is due in a few months.  i will try to get a lot of olys in this year and build a super base before the 1/2. i vowed after my last injury that i never wanted another injury, so i am humbling myself some.  i will be at ceasers but not for the buckeye.  i def wish u good luck as it may be a race i do next year.  oh yeah, about helping out with nmr and pchem...of course u got driven into the arms of another science!

ah, yes... the pending doom of physical chemists. I eventually got bored out of my mind! But the physics was great.

Well, if you do the Buckeye next year, I'll most likely be there. My folks live in Mansfield, so I choose a race that's strategic enough for a visit.

I've heard that Pineman is a pretty well run race, so you should like that. Regardless of how Buckeye goes, (whether I finish it smiling, or not finish it after crashing!) I'll try to remember to post a race report for all to see.

Cheers!

Hi Teresa!

Welcome!!!  Sounds like you'll have alot of great input to all of us based on some of your racing, coaching, and nutrition background.

And yes, this board is really a great group of people who are all very friendly/helpful.

Dan
