Team 7 roster is filled - actually more than filled at 9 members. Please signup here if you want to do the July Tri challenge. Team size is limited to 8 - someone please closeout the roster when 8 people signup. Someone start Team 9 (if necessary) once the roster is filled. Also, who wants to captain this team, pick a name, etc? Does anyone from Team 8 want to move-over to 8 and maybe captain?See the July Tri Challenge Central thread for more info.

Sweet, I'll join team 8. Eight is great! That's our motto, until we get a name other than "team 8." At that point, it will no longer make any sense. Go team!

I would love to be on team 8 if you guys and gals will have me.  8 was my lucky number and the number I wore when I played soccer.  How could I go wrong with that?

OK Am I in here? No coffee yet. Ya know what? Don't take Zirtek for your allergies. I have taken in twice now and there is NOT enough coffee in the whole darn universe to wake you up. If I was not itching my face off last night I would not have taken it. ACK.. I am on team 8 now.. Right?? Someone slap me.

OK I'm in with this team. First we gotta get a cool name, later on we can work on a secret handshake and designs for the special decoder ring! I hope I can figure out what the rules are for this challenge. Maybe by July 31st I'll have my head out of the sand.

Errrrr......double the strength of that coffee Nancy, I may need some!

Yes! nliedel, we've finally found a home for you. You're on TEAM 8!

Max, maybe this will help alleviate your confusion. (Sorry I can't do anything for your allergies and grogginess, Nancy). I know it's early!

We are organizing a training challenge for the month of July.  If you choose to participate, you will set a goal for swimming/running/biking based on your training plan, and then sign-up for one of these teams.  There are 8 people to a team, and the winners of the challenge are determined by [see Renee's answer below].  The losers donate to a charity that the winners choose.  Pretty simple.

Renee - 2005-07-01 2:09 PM

A team is just like a team in real life only we 'meet' online. Each teammember sets goals and we determine winning team based upon overall team performance. We've experimented with various formulas for past challenges; this month we will use a TBD formula. The Captain of each team has a say in what this formula will look like.

See JULY TRI CHALLENGE CENTRAL for more info on the challenge.

Also, as of now, you may set your goals in minutes, miles, yards, meters, or whatever you normally track them by.

Glad you've both decided to play!

Goals. Well I did that yesterday on my blog so it is an easy transfer. I just need COFFEE.. it's the elixer of life. I know a lot of healthy people who would never touch it. Good for them, more for me.

Running: 31 Miles a week = 129 total

1 long run a week
1 speed workout a week

Biking: 40 Miles a week = Total: 180 Miles (that sounds like a LOOOOOOOONG way but it is not much compared to my running. I am going to have to work up to more time in the saddle)

Swimming: 1000 meters 3 times a week: 130 KM

This is you Captain speaking.  I think that we have a very good team indeed.  I will discuss the rules of engagement with the other Captain's to determine what goals we should be setting.  I had in mind to call the team "Team Machiavelo" but I am up let's have some suggestions and vote on it.  I am sure that some of you guys have got some good ideas for a team name, so let's here them.  Tentatively, I have set my goal for July already at: Swim 10,000 meters, Bike 250 miles, Run 25 miles.  Later ... :-)

This is just a guess based on years of running but go for time or distance, not both. At least that's how I feel about it. Right now I am just trying to get there the same day. Later I will worry about getting there before lunch!

Well, it looks like each individual team members opts for his/her goals, whether in time or distance.  It is merely a matter of setting a goal and seeing if we have achieved it at the end.  So, whether I set my goals in time or distance, if I meet them, I am 100% successful! My goals are:

Swim 10,000 meters, bike 250 miles, run 25 miles

OK, here's my goals for the month too:

SWIM: 10,000 yards
BIKE: 400 miles
RUN: 60 miles

They would be a bit more ambitious, but I've got an Ironman in here, and with a taper week plus some recovery time, it'll be taking a bite out of what I might normally be able to do.

Hmmmmm.....team name?

1. "Lycra Lizards" this ain't your mother's spandex!
2. "Sheik Yabootie" and anything else ya wanna show off.
3. "With 8 You Get Eggroll" I got yer eggroll right here buddy!

Hey ya'll - Harmony hasn't gotten online yet since I put her on your team. So depending on what she wants to do when she sees my pm and this post, you may have room for one more, FYI. But hopefully she'll want to play on your awesome team!

Heh heh...you all should probably know you have a injured team member, so my run goal may end up being a little...nonexistent. Can I substitute water running? That's one of the sports in triathlon, right? I expect to get back to real running some time in the middle of July, but I'll have to go do some calculations to figure out what's realistic.

Hmm... Didn't realize I'd joined the team with Moose and Rocco as our own personal motivators.

Goals:

Swim: 10,000 yards
Bike: 120 miles
Run: 10 hours

This will be for the first 3 weeks of July, cause the last week I'm going on vacation, and not planning on doing anything structured that week (planned rest week.)  The swim will be easy, the bike and run will be definitely stretch goals, but doable.

Team Name Suggestions:

1. Medicis - after all, we're led by Machiavelo.
2. Crazy Eights - I like this one
3. The Eight Ball Knows All - http://www.indra.com/8ball/front.html  (we can ask deep and meaningful training questions)
4. Pieces of Eight - http://blindkat.hegewisch.net/pirates/money.html  (we could talk in pirate code and have a secret pirate handshake - most importantly, a secret map to our lair)

Edit:  I like what team Endless Summer is doing with the avatars - so avatar suggestions to go along with the names...

1.  Everyone has a Medici - obviously our team captain must be Machiavelli (sp?)
2.  A Crazy Eight card
3.  A Magic eight ball
4.  Either a piece of eight, or we could each be a pirate, whichever.

Hello Kiddies!!

Sorry for my tardiness, but I was out working my butt off today!  Got in a great ride down the coast.  Sounds like this is going to be a fun team.  I don't think I acutally understand the rules, but oh well.  That hasn't stopped me before!  Either way...WE ROCK!!!

Here are my goals for the month.
Swim - 10,000 meters - if I can make this it's gonna be huge.  It's double my biggest month.
Bike - 120 miles - will be a record for me
Run - 20 miles

Team Names - here are the ones I like, in no certain order.
1. Eight is great
2. Crazy Eights
3.  With 8 you get eggroll
