I'm assuming Hush the F(*# Up or Hurry the F(#& Up, but I've seen it used here and I'm wondering if its something else

sorry for the wasted bandwidth on such a stupid question, but its bugging the crap out of me (BTCOOM)

It means man up, do better, work harder or harden up some.  It is an acronym for harden the f up.

No stupid questions here.

wondered the same thing for the past 3 months, so I googled it yesterday to find out.  I had been reading it as hurry teh f up also.  not as intuitive as one would think.

Not a stupid question, though there is a fine line between HTFU and pushing yourself beyond your capable limits and injuring yourself (or prolonging an existing injury).

DG beat me to it! Though he should have said "NSFW" as I did.

Time for a new thread asking "What is NSFW?"

thanks, harden makes sense now.  I thought maybe "hush" as most of the time it seemed to relate.  But then who would drop the f bomb but try to use a softer word for "shut"?

My take on HTFU is not so much to physically push yourself; but to overcome your doubts about what you can do.

In the military, we said/say  "Soldier up."

HTFU = excuse for everyone who has been on here for a while to pad their post counts answering a question in as many different ways as possible to deliver the same message...............................
So......
HTFU - Harden the $%#^ Up. originated (I think) in the Australian comedy sketch by Ronnie Johns, was taken by Australian Cyclist Stuart O'Grady and made into Wrist bands (Al La Live strong bands) for his team in the Tour De France.

Since then has been used by cyclists, endurance, triathlon teams to "encourage" getting on with the task at hand and staying strong etc etc.

you can get the bands ( I have one) it kind of works for me when
a. feel like staying in one my couch and not training
b. feel like not working as hard as I really should
c. during longer sessions/events to push mentally - amazing how a little sentence said at the right time can have a big affect

plus it works to boost the post count, so absolutely no stupid question here, thanks :-)

ETA (check my signature line, Man up and Crack on, same sentiment from UK military use)

Speaking of Google, I wish you lot would GTF with your acronyms. I spend more time looking stuff up than I do reading posts when I come on here.

ps. Does the F in an acronym always mean the same thing? It seems to.

One of my kids is constantly asking me questions.

Things like How many moons Jupiter has, or Why there is no "E" in the grading system, or the like.

I used to say "I don't know", but then she learned to respond "well, what's that iPhone good for then?"

With this, my technique for answering your question, and just about any other. Nothing mean spirited intended, I just think this website does a nice job pointing out how we all really can know most of the answers.

Asking question never been called a stupid. Good to see that members here were so approachable when seeking a valid answer. Hoping I will enjoy being a new member here since I have a lot of question in mind
