I am headed to Lake Moomaw for the Bath race.  Did it last year, great race, great food afterwards.  The very beginning of the run is a little steep.

I'll be there camping w/ my family and another family.  I've never done this race (this will only be my second tri).  However, I have been to Moomaw a number of times and it is great.  So is the rest of Bath Co.  Great fly fishing, mountain biking, etc.  And I suspect a great race.

Loving the weather forecast right now.  Looks like it will be beautiful.  Anyone here have opinions about using the wetsuit or not?

I don't think a wetsuit will be absolutely needed, but it should be legal, and therefore I will probably wear mine.  The water should be a little chilly as the lake is fed by mountain streams.  Hope the weather forecast stays true.

I did not wear a wetsuit last year, but I've since bought a sleeveless wetsuit that I'm planning to use this year at Bath County.  I'd say the majority of people last year had them - if you have one, I'd say use it.

I wore a wetsuit last year and I'm planning on doing the same this year, as long as it's wetsuit-legal.

The weather forecast looks great.

I'm wearing if they are legal.  No doubt about it.  Love the added buoyancy.  Just confirming I won't be the only person.

When I'm not on the course, I'll be in my gold "TeamWhitlock Triathlon" shirt.  If you see me, say hello.  I enjoy meeting fellow BTers.

Just got an event info email from Setup Events - estimated water temp is 70.  Quote from the email - "Bring your wetsuit"

Wow!  That's actually colder than the water temperature for the Belews Lake Triathlon I did in NC in APRIL

Hills!  Serious question ... what percentage of the bike and run course would you say is basically flat?  I'd say 20% and that may be generous.  You are either going uphill or downhill the entire race.  That's what it felt like to me.

Not complaining.  Just sayin'.

Regarding the hills, I'd say your guess of 20% is about right, maybe less.  It's definitely a hilly course.  The start of the run is no fun.

I love the venue at Lake Moomaw - despite the hills, this is one of my favorites.

I wish I had my mind wrapped around it before the race.  Sometimes you just can't make the time to see the course beforehand.  I actually do my training runs on hills similar to what this course had.  But the bike?  That first hill was pretty severe.  I was doing 38 MPH coming down it at one point.  I'll need more bike work to do better next year, but no doubt I'll come back.

Thanks Mike.  You had a really great race.

I'd love to do this again next year.  Great race altogether.  Plus camping out at the lake was lots of fun too.  Thanks, Bath County.
