can you rig the profile design bottle to your areo bars without the mounting bracket? i've never seen the bottle in person but it seems like i could get away with a good ole home made rig. i'm cheap haha.

On my last bike my aero bars were spaced just perfectly so that the PD bottle slid right in between them without having to use the bracket.  I never had an issue and it never popped out.
Depending on how far apart your aero bars are you could probably rig something up using velcro straps.

On my new bike I use the bracket and it works really well and I've had no issues with it as well.

The bottle comes with two big ol' rubber bands to strap it to the bars without anything mount.

It slides between "narrow" aerobars and has two big rubber bands to hold it in place. I don't remember the dimensions, but I do remember reading that it fits "narrow" aerobars.

yes, it fits perfectly in my aerobars and I use the rubberbands provided to keep it in place.

This works as long as your aero bars aren't too far apart.

I have linebacker shoulders, so my fitter had to spread my bars apart to make the aero position bearable. So I had to buy the bracket in which the bottle sits.

Yes and no...

I have a pic in my album of a "redneck aerobottle" setup (no...it isn't a PD... )

The mounting bracket is about $15.  You *might* have raw materials lying around that you could use, but please include any safety considerations into your home-grown design.  How would you feel if you crashed into someone and really trashed them with the sharp edges of your custom scrap-aluminum bottle holder?

Depends on your aerobars.  Some (e.g. Airstryke) fit fine but others need the bracket.

BTW- A piece of old 700c innertube cut/tied to proper length works fine in place of those stock big rubber bands.  Loop 'em around the bottle as per PD directions.

In lieu of the rubber bands that come with the aerobottle little bungee cords work even better.  I've watched pros tape their bottle onto their bars on race morning with duct or electrical tape too.

I had the bracket but took it off as it made it difficult to get the bottle in with the way I mounted my power meter computer head.

I used the elastic bands for awhile then last few years have used electric tape. I even tape across the fill hole partially then it stays put, I don't lose the yellow thing, and it stays more secure for me. I recall I did 100 mile ride and it rattled the whole ride which drove me nuts so now I use electric tape. I also tape the side of my power tap computer head to the mount as I've launched that twice once training and once in a race and those are expensive to replace.

I put some Pipe insulation from Lowes on my handlebars to make a nice snug fit.  Keeps it from rattling too.  Seemed a bit ghetto, but it only cost me $2 for a few years worth of mounting materials
