Ok. This is the result of the aforementioned clipless incident.

This is as good as it is ever going to get.

I was newbie clipless, stopped,  forgot to unclip,  fell off and broke my elbow.

The shape of the bone has now changed meaning this is as much as I will ever be able to straighten it.

VeganMan - 2010-06-10 4:59 PM I crossed tires in mile 5 going downhill 42mph.  Had an avulsion (think fillet) of two quads from slamming into an aid station ice chest.  Not sure how far I slid on the pavement.  Landed on my stomach, thought my guts were torn out by the reaction of the first person to come into my view.  It is a horrific story, including everything my wife went thru during the ordeal.  Didn't break a bone though.  Took a while to get back but ended up running the KC 1/2 mary that October.

ETA: Just missed the major artery on the backside of the knee.  Still have edema to this day.

Crossed tires at 42mph??   Oh .... My .... God!!!

(Note to self, get OUT of aero if above 35 mph and still going downhill)

I haven't had a major wreck yet, but I regularly reach 45mph on downhill stretches and have hit 50mph+ before.  At this speed I don't think it matters whether the motor burns gas or bananas.  You hit the pavement, it's going to hurt.

I crashed my bike last year about 12 weeks prior to IMCDA (not my fault).  Came away with a trip to the ER, 6 weeks of PT, a new bike, and a Grade 3 shoulder seperation.

A motorcyclist riding at these speeds will be wearing virtually a full suit of armour, and we hit the same thing as him/her when we fall off.
