I am very much looking forward to catching this season On Demand.  Since I work every weekend, night shift, I don't get to see it "live".

Hopefully they keep the story moving a little better than last season.  I got pretty tired of the weekly orgy scene of season 2.

My 2 cents after one episode:

I’m worried that this is going to be another season where the more interesting subplot is completely overwhelmed by the less interesting subplot.

Last season, I thought that the search for Godric/Fellowship of the Sun thread was much better than the Maryann the Maenad plot. The scene between Sookie, Erik, and Godric on the roof was, IMHO, the best scene in the series thus far, and should have been the climax of the season, not the ridiculous dance around the meat-covered Maypole in Sookie’s front yard.

I like where the story about Eric and Bill and the Queen and the Magister is going. But I have a nasty feeling that we’re going to see way too many vampire/werewolf battles, which will get old just as fast as the endless Maenad orgies did last season.

Still, glad to have it back. I missed the show.

Jim, you may very well be right.  Last season, the series diverted from the book and made the meanad the main point, where she was very minor in the book, and people complained a bit.

Now they may take a topic that's not in the book, but could be really cool, and put it to the back to focus more on the book's story...

Who knows, but I'm glad it's back on too.

X2.  Godric was such a compelling character and got so little story time.

So is the Magister higher ranking than the Queen?   And is she just the queen of Louisana?

I'm a little confused about the whole vampire hierarchy.

Yes, and No.

Kings and Queens are basically by state, and sheriffs control a region within each state.  The Magister is considered THE LAW and enforcer of the (vampire) law - almost like a singular supreme court.  So if a queen breaks the law (like distributing V) then the Magister can punish the Queen - because the law is more important than a ruler that can be replaced (we actually dont know how a sherif/king or queen is chosen - best guess is by age and power).  BUT because the Queen does outrank the Magister (because The Magister would assume that the king/queen would never break a law) the Magister must keep the queen informed of what he is doing and how he will pursue it in her realm.

Is there a step above king/queen other than the Magister - we do not know yet

I’m not clear on the hierarchy either, but from what I remember, it sounds like, regardless of ranking in the hierarchy, the Magister is a lot older than her.

I seem to remember the Magister making a comment during Bill’s trial that suggested that he’d been around during the Inquisition, while the Queen said that she had been turned around the time of the industrial revolution. That makes him older than her by 300-400 years. But, then again, Erik’s 1000+ years old and she overpowered him easily.

Has anyone else noticed that the Queen has unusually large fangs? I wonder if that’s an indication of her superiority?

In the book, the queen is 1300 years old thereabouts...... Making her older than Eric. Dunno about the tv show though.

I noticed that last season and also wondered if it had anything to do with age/power, etc.

IIRC when Bill is being punnished in season 1, the person that was before him had his fangs pulled out as his punnishment.  They said it would take a few months to grow back, I think.  I don't know what that has to do with anything, but it shot out of my brain and I couldn't stop from typing it.
