Subject: 1.5hr trainer ride...any suggestions?

I have to ride on my trainer tonight - my schedule just got crazy and can't workout till late - by that time it's dark.  Any suggestions on what to do for 1.5 hrs to keep me from going out of my head?

thanks!

What kind of ride is it supposed to be effort wise? Do you train by power, HR or RPE?

Trainer is good place to do hard intervals.

Ipod or a good movie does the trick for me!

Ironman videos or movies (preferably action, too much dialog is distracting).

Take the trainer out to a busy shopping center and set up a donation bucket.  Collect money to use toward race/travel fees or charity.

Watch tv.....I do most if not all my shows lately on the trainer due to having a 2 month old...the longest I've gone on the trainer so far is 3 hours...tv and movies make the time pass

Starting at 9 ... The Office / 30Rock / The Office .... 90 minutes total .... EZ spin during the show so you can hear the dialogue, then go fulll-buster during commercials.... try to get your HR up to LT and hold for duration of the commercial break.

I'm headed to basement now!

movies, I-tunes on the computer, or I-pod.  I usually watch MLB on the computer.  If you bike inside, TV is the best option.  I bike in the garage, where it's nice and humid

The worst part of trainer rides is that my @$$ feels like someone shoved a flagpole where the sun doesn't shine.  usually starts to hurt pretty bad after an hour, and most of my saturday rides are 3 hours.....anyone know of a good, comfy saddle?

x2 on the towel (you'll need 2 of them....1 for the floor, 1 for your face & bike) and the fan....

That was one of the crappiest workouts ever.  My trainer wasn't holding my bike properly so I had to get off and adjust it a few times.  Then my front shifter became...jacked up...and wouldn't go from my small to big front gear...grrr.   My life better get less busy so I can ride outside during the daylight!

The highlight of the ride though:  Supertroopers!!  If it weren't for that movie, I'd throw my bike shoes through the window right meow!!

ah, tomorrow's another day.

And, thanks for all the ideas/suggestions guys - you're great!!

I ride four trainer rides every week of a minimum of 90 minutes. Cannot ride outside here.

I watch old tdf/Paris-Roubaix/etc bike races from World Cycling Productions or, lately, I have started watching the "Heroes" Season 1-4 and only allow myself to watch it if I am on the trainer. So pick a good TV series that you always wanted to watch, buy the entire season or series, and only watch it if you are on the trainer. Works for me!

I'm an at-home dad with a 4 and 5 year old so a lot of my training is on an indoor trainer. I bought some DVDs from the Spinervals guy and use them frequently. One of the rides is a three hour ride of the Madison IM course. It's not like being outside but it's a change of pace from watching TV shows. The joys of indoor training...

1.5 hours? That's easy stuff! Music or the TV.

Try 4 hours on a trainer. 1.5 hours is standard.

Try 4 hours on a trainer. .

No way jose!  I'd pull my hair out if I had to spend 4 hours on a trainer.  I guess I'm pretty lucky to not have to ride inside very often!  Beautiful southern WI is fantastic for road riding!!

Rode the Sufferfest triple today (Downward Spiral, Fight Club and 45 Revolver). Works out to about 2.5hrs on the trainer doing intervals. I find the time goes by pretty quick by using the trainer vids. I also use a CompuTrainer so I'm focusing on watts being produced during the intervals which helps to kill time too.
