Subject: tri group or groups rides near Ocean Isle?
I am going on vacation in about a week and need to continue my training. Anyone know of group in or near Ocean Isle who might like to pick up a rider for the week?

I don't know of any tri-groups but there are usually weekly rides out of Island Hoppers Bike shop on the corner of route 17 and 904. 

I think that there is a map of a 35 mile ride on line if you do a search.

We ride Wednesday morning at 8:00 am, and Saturday at 7:30 am.  Wednesday is a more relaxed ride, and a smaller group, we usually average around 16-17.  On Saturdays there is a bigger group that splits up.  Last Saturday we rode about 45 averaged 20+.  Island Hoppers is at the corner of Hwy 17 and 904, red brick building, no sign.  Diagonal from Mickey D's.  We love visiting riders!

No tri groups in the area.  For swimming I'd go to the Brunswick County Community College.  $7 drop in fee.  8 lanes, 25 yards, good water.

I will google Island Hoppers today! I will be checking in on Sat afternoon so would not be able to make the sat. morning ride but will make wednesdays for sure.

Ginger - Are the rides you have posted the Island Hoppers too? I will check out the pool. 7 bucks is not bad. I saw a small gym was on the island so I will scope that out today!

Tracy - here is the link for the Google Groups for Ocean Isle Beach Cyclists.  Yes, Island Hoppers and the rides I posted are the same.   I won't be there this coming Saturday (7/10) but am typically there on the other rides, maybe we'll see you next week.

The $7 will let you use the pool and the gym.  The Dinah E. Gore Fitness & Aquatics Center in Supply.  From Hwy 17 you can see a sign for the Community College, follow that road and the first building you see on the left is the center.   If you want company for a swim let me know.

I hope I can afford to get it sometime soon. Maybe when tri season is over and everything goes on sale!

Hi.  I'm going to be in Ocean Isle this weekend (7/17) and, hopefully, come to the group ride on Saturday morning.  Can anyone give me an idea of the average speed for this group?  And if you have a no-drop policy?  I typically ride about 18 mph.

Our ride usually breaks up into two groups.  At your pace you should be fine.  The A group is typically 20+,  the B group 16-18.  

7:30 from Island Hoppers on Saturday.

I'll be there, hope you make it out.  Today we had 17 people on the ride, I think only 5 were locals.  We like that we live in a vacation area and get visitors on the rides.   See you on Saturday.

My brother has a place at OIB and had I known about this group ride beforehand, I would have been bringing my bike down all the time! Instead I've just planned ahead for a run or a rest day while there. I love the idea of meeting up with some new folks to go for a ride - especially around the beach.

Just wanted to chime in and say that I joined last wednesday's 40 mile ride and it was great. I was also from out of town and the group was very friendly and the ride was a nice easy pace. (FLAT TOO)
