Event Power-Long Island Triathlon Tour
Sunny
Total Time = 1h 22m 32s
Overall Rank = 356/417
Age Group = 35 - 39
Age Group Rank = 0/
Pre-race routine:

Night before, tried on new clothes, did a mock set up in livingroom with Dwight to make sure we had everything together.
Event warmup:

up at 5am, had a protein drink. went to site at 6am. set up bike and towel.
Swim
  • 12m 39s
  • 500 meters
  • 02m 32s / 100 meters
Comments:

Not too bad, much better that I thought it was going to be. Remembered my technique about 1/2 - 3/4 of the way through the swim. Some women pushed off of me at points and I ran into a guy but for the most part there was very little contact and I was able to swim the whole way with a few breast stroke breaks to correct my sighting and one back stroke stint to stretch out my shoulders.
What would you do differently?:

maybe warm up a bit before the race, didn't want to get in because the water and air were not warm. not stress about not having my wet suit on.
Transition 1
  • 03m 59s
Comments:

brought water to rinse salt off legs and was very glad to have it. also rinsed sand off of my feet. used
What would you do differently?:

put on gloves before I get on the bike! adjust my heart monitor so that it registers.
Bike
  • 25m 25s
  • 8 miles
  • 18.89 mile/hr
What would you do differently?:

drink more, maybe work a little harder and not worry as much about the legs being tired as they were tired anyway!
Transition 2
  • 01m 45s
Comments:

good transition, went the right way
What would you do differently?:

had trouble pulling on the second sports bra, had to ask for help. don't know how to remedy this as I was quite glad not to have it on during the bike...
Run
  • 38m 44s
  • 3.4 miles
  • 11m 23s  min/mile
Comments:

Don't like drinking while I run, must drink more on bike. Ran the whole way except for a few second at the water stop I walked. Was really stiff at the beginning, for the first mile or so I was worried I was going to cramp! By the end I was pacing off of two other team in training women and as a result ran faster than I would have by myself (i think) Was Huffing and Puffing quite a bit by the time I crossed the finish but was a pretty comfortable run overall.
What would you do differently?:

want to know why I feel like I am running wrong... very jarring
Post race
Warm down:

paced, panted, ate peanut butter on a bagel, don't like gatorade after the race, upsets my stomach, again must drink more on the bike

What limited your ability to perform faster:

heart rate on run. I guess I need more training.

Event comments:

Great first race, a bit shaky on the directions for the swim start but otherwise very good. didn't start the awards until very late and we had left (not that that matters)
