Subject: Brick Workout: It's A little known fact....

So I get my Triathlete magazine (which is AWESOME this month if you're into training data and gadgets) and there's an article about Brick workouts.

Am I the only one who didn't know that "Brick" training gets it's name from a guy named Matt Brick who developed the concept to practice being faster in T2 and have a faster run split? I thought it was like a "brick" of training like a...well, I don't know what I thought exactly. Doh. Sorry Matt. Great idea though. Thanks.

At least now when you're milling about the transition area before the swim start discussing training strategies you can talk about how that Brick guy really knew his stuff.

I did not know that - and have to wonder if it's sort've a triathlon myth as I have NEVER heard that before.

My understanding was it came from

Bike - Run - Ick! - makes Brick, which you have to admit makes a catchier sounding reason than that it's named after some guy named Brick.

Hmmm... now wondering if fartleks were named after someone, rather than for a cool reason.

I didn't know that until I read my magazine Friday. I always thought it was because your legs felt like "bricks" during the run.

Always thought it was called that because I felt like I'd been hit with a brick.

That's the common understanding but apparently this Matt guy is to blame...I say we track his ass down and give him a piece of our minds for inventing the damn thing

Ya' know... I've been doing this sport for 20 yrs. and pretty much read every book and magazine on the subject of triathlon...

And I've never heard this explanation of the term Brick.

Hmmm.... why is it that this seems to only come out now? Very interesting....

BTW, That's a rhetorical question...

I do fartleks on a regular basis, and your question prompted me to do a search on google. Seems that fartlek is Swedish - fart=speed and lek=play. The guy who thought of this saw the way that children run when they play.

I believe his name was Sven Fartlek.
