Overall Rank = 120/250
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 12/16
Pre-race routine:

The started a little rough... after making a nice bike breakfast I proceeded to drop the entire plate of food onto myself, the couch, and the floor. I had to make a second breakfast and that put me behind schedule a bit. But I was able to get packed up and setup at the transition. Ate a banana about 20 mins before the start.
Event warmup:

Swam and floated in the river for about 8 minutes getting used to the temperature.
Swim
  • 16m 12s
  • 1500 meters
  • 01m 05s / 100 meters
Comments:

The swim went really well. I was in the front pack for the entire thing. Knowing the river well I was able to navigate the course better than most. Swimming with the current rules!
What would you do differently?:

Like my last race, I probably could have pushed the swim even a little bit more.
Transition 1
  • 02m 14s
Comments:

I dropped my stupid swim cap on the run into the transition area. Without even thinking about it I turned back to retrieve it. I slipped as I turned back a fell to one knee. Super annoying. Other than that, T1 went well.
What would you do differently?:

Leave the stupid swim cap.
Bike
  • 1h 28m 48s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 16.79 mile/hr
Comments:

Man, this bike course was hard for me. It was all up hill the first part... no rest the entire way up. I pushed hard on the climb and even harder on the downhill, but all that climbing really took it out of me.
What would you do differently?:

Practice more continued climbs.
Transition 2
  • 01m 3s
Comments:

The girl in front of me dropped her shoe right in my path as I was dismounting. But other than dodging that, T2 went fast.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 57m 20s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 09m 14s  min/mile
Comments:

It seemed really hot on the run. My legs were shot and I went pretty slow on the first lap. Oh, and I had to pee really bad on the first lap and just went off the course behind a tree. The second lap was better and I was able to push it the last mile or so. No one passed me on the last mile or so.
What would you do differently?:

Just learn to run faster.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked a bit and then grabbed some water and beer.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I need to work harder on sustained climbs on the bike and I need to get faster on my run.

Event comments:

Need a porta-potty outside the transition area and it didn't have any mile markers on the course. But other than that it was great.

Great job, Nole! I saw the slip... didn't look too bad though!  Sorry I didn't stay around, but it was my daughters birthday today and I needed to get back home.  Congrats on a well executed race.  That climb on the bike is a killer!

Nice job!  And at the races we have here, we get a time penalty for leaving items on the course.  I think picking it up was a good call.

That bike course seems like a killer!  (One of the benefits of living in Ohio--little to no hills!) Wink

Nice job at the race!  I did the sprint on Sunday.  It was my 5th time doing it.  Yes, that climb out to the turn around is tough!
