So after the thread about high beams I decided I will just ask this one:

I have, shall we say, ample assets, built more for comfort than speed as it were.  When I ride I wear a pretty decent compression sports bra but not one of the high impact ones that completely corral the girls.  This of course leaves them free to bounce somewhat.  When my cadence is between 80 and 90 the bounce is fairly harmonic with my peddle strokes.  Much past a cadence of 90 however, the bounce becomes rather disharmonic.  It gets uncomfortable though not in a painful way, it just throws me off.  I haven’t tried a cadence of 100+ for any length of time so I don’t know if it “straightens out” at a certain point.  Am I the only one that this happens too? If not does it “straighten out” at a higher cadence?

I was built more for speed (though that speed hasn't shown up yet...), and I had no idea this happened.  Would it help to use the same bra you use running if you wanted to pedal faster?

I have aeroboobs, so I obviously don't experience what you are experiencing, but do you think your seat is too high/low or you should be in a heavier gear??  I have pretty much zero motion in my upper body, especially when i'm pushing high cadences on flats...

I do use the same bra type when I'm running.  The bounce there is much less of an issue though that may have to do with the fact that I run rather slow.  I just don't like wearing the heavy duty bulletproof bras when I ride, they're just not as comfortable.  I prefer to only use them for stuff like kickboxing when corraling the girls is required.

I'm fairly ample (DDD) and I don't have have this happen to me.  I do wear a really good sports bra when I ride but even without I wouldn't bounce that much if at all as my upper body is fairly quiet.

Another thought (and I'm not saying that you have this problem) is that you have some excess padding around the middle that is pushed up when your legs spin in turn pushing the girls up and down.  Or like others said - perhaps you need to be in a higher gear?

Yep yep yep ... just like I said and they said ... strap'm puppies down and use an appropriate gear.

Ummmm

if I may ask

What size are you? You should be able to find a comfy bra that's not ironclad ...

Also, are you sure the bra you're wearing is the right size? If you've lost any weight and your boobs have shrunk, they're going to flop around in the extra material.

I have the more 'sporty boobs' size, so I can't say I've experienced this myself.  I would venture a guess that if you don't normally ride with a cadence above 90, then your body isn't conditioned to it.  If you ride that high all the time, you will eventually be able to do it without so much bounce.  Ultimately, your upper body should not move much at all, so my guess is that you just aren't used to the high cadence and that it doesn't really matter the size of your girls if you have the right bra.  It takes time to build up the stabilizer muscles and core strength to be able to maintain a smooth, high cadence pedal stroke.

DD, triple if the cut is right or wrong however one sees it.

Bra's as right size as I can ever find in a compression bra and there is no room for movement within. It is, however, pretty "full" which I'm wondering if that isn't part of the problem.  I could wish my boobs would shrink at least to a C cup that would be nice.

The new running store near my house has some of the moving comfort bras so I'm thinking I will head over there and look into those.

I'm thinking I may also need to pay some more attention to my upper body may be I am moving more than I think I am.

We're about the same size and compression-type bras absolutely do not cut it for me. They still bounce, but just as one giant uniboob.

I like Moving Comfort, a lot.

And also check to make sure you're not bouncing in the saddle ... again, if you're pushing a hard enough gear, you should be fairly still and smooth in the saddle, some swaying of the shoulders or torso maybe, but not the boobage.

This was my first thought as well... that you might be bouncing in the saddle.
I see a lot of people bob up and down and side to side while riding but we should really have very little movement up top.

EDIT: as a founding member of the BT-aeroboob-club, take all of that with a grain of salt

Thanks for the advice ladies I appreciate it.  Looks like I will be headed to the new running store for some new bras.  My husband isn't going to let me go there unescorted any more after the last 2 times.

Now If only I could watch myself ride to see if the upper body is moving too much.

As a girl with big boobs that bounce way too much. I have noticed you can be a large size and not bounce or a large size and bounce. I have determined it comes down to the consistency of the breast tissue. Some boobs especially man made ones are firm others that have fed kids and expanded and deflated are floppy. Floppy boobs bounce more and hurt I think... but this is just theory as I don't have the firm kind. And you can have a proper fitting bra and they will bounce.

I have one hell of a hold down sports bra, I wear it biking, running and depending on what swimsuit I am wearing I have to wear it when I swim or the girls think they can swim free. Up until this summer I wouldn't even attempt running because it was painful. I am sick of them, I refuse to let them hold me back anymore.

My solution... next year reduction! I think I will go for the aerroboobs model. Laughing

When I ride my upper body is still only my legs move.  I'm thinking if you a bouncing some you are moving your upper body more than ideal.

I am a D and wear Moving Comfort Fiona sports bras most runs and bikes. I can bike with built in shelf bras and feel comfortable. I have had short periods of times a couple times a year that I get some bouncing sometimes even with some funny sounds with the rolling nature of the road but not often but when it happens I chuckle.

Ha ha my husband will love my bike on the trainer in the bathroom.  I'll have to pull my tri bike off the trainer (it doesn't happen on the tri bike) and put my road bike on it.

My wife's an F and loves the Fiona bras.  With the caveat that they are one of the few that actually fit her.  And they still allow a bunch of movement while running, but better than most others out there.

She never says anything about riding, but her cadence isn't fast either.

Have you been fitted recently on your Road bike?  If your rocking that much on the road bike but not the Tri bike, fit may be an issue (or it could simply be geometry or aero bars).

On the other hand have a trainer in the bedroom (with a mirror) could have its benefits!

New information...have you checked to see that the seat height on your road bike is the same as your tri-bike?

I love the term "Aeroboobs!!!!" Too funny!!!

I have the same issue (DD) and I found a Moving Comfort bra a few years ago at Campmor. It's the only one that fits right without looking like body armour (like Title Nine's "Last Resort" bra)...and it's the first one that's so effective that I don't need to wear a second one on top. For my first race, I plan to wear it and tri shorts for the swim, then throw my jersey on before the bike. It's worked well in practice.

I used to mail order MC bras, but apparently they're becoming popular--I just saw a ton of them in Eastern Mountain Sports.
