Subject: Moving to London ...
I am moving to London in October and need to know where I can swim and ride. I saw that OWS is allowed in the Serpentine in Hyde Park starting in May. Can I also ride in Hyde Park or is that not allowed? If so I am going to probably find a place to live nearby. Another option, I was told, was possibly Victoria Park? HELP!!!

Hi mr Tony
there is actually a serpentine tri club so maybe they will know the best places to ride in that area. Riding in Hyde Park is not brilliant as it is either too busy with traffic or too many walkers. There are a few Victoria Parks in London so not sure which you mean.
I hope you settle ok in London, property near Hyde Park is extremely pricey so might be worth looking at other parts of London as it is easy enough to get around by bus or subway. Or bike of course.
You can pm me if you want any help with locations or property agent details etc.

Thanks Pashda. My company has a realtor through which they work so I should be good to go on that front. I am looking at flats near Hyde Park right now and, yes, they're quite pricey but not too bad. A colleague of mine suggested South London and I've been looking near Vicky Park, which I like a lot. I just want to be close to areas where I can ride and run and such. I hope it goes smoothly. I'll need to learn to speak English and enjoy gray skies.

There's quite a bit of OWS swimming in London or so I'm finding out at the moment! There's a couple of good tri / ows swimming clubs and coaching setups (swim4tri springs to mind) so you shouldn't have any issues with that.

As to Hyde Park - I used to run there on my lunch breaks and it was great for that but it gets packed in the summer. I also rode through it on my daily commute and as Pashda says it isn't all that great. If you're in central London then there are a few parks but to be honest it's pretty easy to get out of London on the bike. I'm in north London so just ride north for 5 or 6 miles and I'm in the countryside pretty much. South London is much more "leafy and green" than north London so I'm guessing the roads will generally be better to ride on.

Oh one bit of advice - the roads are really aggressive so be prepared for a bun fight and people actually aiming for you. That said it is damn good fun sprinting through the traffic lol

One final point - welcome to London and the UK!
