Subject: Clyde Saddle???
I am in the market for a new saddle.  I have the stock one that came with my Allez, had the bike for a while.  Would like more comfort, and one that will not break the bank around $50.

thanks for the advice.

I hear you man.  I like one that has an opening in the center and gel padding.  I just got a new Trekk and the seat is very uncomfortable.  I swapped out my old seat and it feels much better.

Mine looks just like this but it is not the extra wide model.

http://www.amazon.com/Large-Sofa-Gel-Comfort-Seat/dp/B000TD24VG/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&s=sporting-goods&qid=1280413091&sr=8-10

Since I use both, my old and my new bike (old bike is permanently on the trainer now) I am considering this for my new bike:

Go to a Specialized (or a Trek) dealer and have them measure your sitbones on their @ss-o-meter...seriously.  They both have a device that when you sit on it, takes an impression of the width of your sitbones.  Knowing the width will enable you to make a more informed purchased when buying a saddle.  If your sitbones are not properly supported (ie. the saddle is too narrow), you will start to feel pressure on your soft tissue...not a pleasant feeling.  If the saddle is too wide, you may get chafing in the areas that are rubbing against the saddle.  Bottom line...get yourself measured and go from there.

Many bike stores have a trade in policy on bike seats. Use one and see if it works. IF it doesn't try a different one. You won't really know until you get miles on your booty.

I'm 6'5" and 225-230 and use the koobi AU endoro

http://www.koobi.com/koobiauenduroandendurogel.aspx

It gets average reviews but i love it.

Keep us posted on how you make out with the seat measurements.  I'm curious as well.  I completely agree that too wide a seat leads to having you fight on the down stroke.

I have been switching back and forth between bikes lately (trainer vs outside) so I went ahead and ordered the seat I was considering.  I simply cannot tolerate the hard seat that my new Trek came with.

Out of your price range, but I use the Adamo Road saddle. I used to have some major issues with the bike seat and numbness, but this saddle has completely taken care of that. May be worth looking into if you don't find anything else.

I also use the Adamo Road saddle.  It is more than $50 but well worth the comfort that the boys get.

Side note:  This saddle did change the fit on my bike.  I took measurements before removing the old saddle and put this in the same place but had major back pain.  Got fit again and all is well.

There's an Adamo listed in the classifieds for $100.
Worth every penny.
I paid close to $200 for my Adamo race saddle and must say that has been the smartest purchase yet for anything triathlon related.
Stretch your budget and get a good seat.  Or, just wait till after a long ride and you can't feel anything down yonder and you can't pee (even though you need to).  You'll be willing to pay $500 for a seat then.  So I say spend the money now.

Check Ebay for Adamo as well.  I think I got my Adamo Road (new) for around 90...  Love it.

I feel the exact same way about my Cobb V-Flow Plus.  The folks there were very helpful in helping me find the right saddle (they suggested the Plus because it is narrower for those of us with more ample thighs) and they even have a great 180 day return policy.

The extra money I spent on the saddle was not only worth the comfort but also being able to sit again and getting the full power of my stream back.
