Subject: The GROSSEST Thing I have ever heard!
My sister in law had a baby on Tuesday. Today she was packing to go home and went to the bathroom (she had a C section) and her stitches broke open in the hospital bathroom and her guts spilled out on the floor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They had to do emergancy surgery to get her back together. She is resting comfortably now ICK, ICK, ICK! My in-laws showed up this evening unnanounced to share this with me. I am so glad she is OK. She is staying in the hospital to at least Sunday to make sure she does not have an infection. ICK!

On the other hand my new nephew is just getting cuter and cuter. Not, however, cute enough to make me want to go through it again.

Please do. I am worried about infection. My in-laws and sister in law are oblivious about infections and think everything will be fine and it probably will be but... Her doctor is top notch, was my doctor and without a doubt is responsible for my two preemies being born as late as they were and my sister in law's baby (my sister in-law and I both have serious cervical problems). So prayers would be good if you do that!

That is just bad. Okay, it would be gross to experience/see it, but that is really serious.  I'm having bad thoughts about necrosis, infection, etc.

She, or your brother, needs to sit down and have a serious talk with the doctor about signs that there is a problem.  Cause if she DOES have issues, they will need to be caught early.  I hope they have her on some strong antibiotics to take care of the possibility of infection.

I know but my sister in law lives in a universe where nothing bad ever happens. She does have an excellent doctor and I know she will be watching her VERY closely this weekend. She is on call all weekend. I suspect Cindie will see her a lot. I know I saw a lot of her when I went into labor at 24 weeks and was stuck in the hospital for 8 weeks. She really is wonderful (doctor) and highly respected. Apparently this does not happen a lot but it does happen. I heard from a couple of people that it happened to them!

She is on heavy duty antibiotics and they had 4 surgeons in there to sew her back up and make sure everything was very clean. Now the worry part. When my youngest was in the hospital this winter with RSV my second youngest picked up Roto Virus. Which apparently can make you very, very sick. A hospital is so full of germs I cannot help but worry about what she might have picked up. I commend her for being so calm (although my hubby says she was in shock). She actually pushed the call button. I would have called the nurse by screaming!

That's almost as sick as the suicide by shotgun I ran on the other night, half a head and still breathing. No dinner for me that night.

OMG Smokeater! That is the worst thing I have ever heard in my life!

BTW hats off to you. Not only have firemen saved my son when he forgot what lungs were for and breathing was about (a preemie, not unheard of but when that monitor went off I was glad someone was theree) but when my oldest was complaining a couple weeks ago about wanting fireworks I was givign some weights away on freecyle (after all I will not be needing dumbells over 60 lbs anytime soon) and a fireman got them. I told him about my son and his interest and he showed him his personal equipment and talked to him for almost half an hour. My 8 year old is obsessed with firemen now and thinks it's the most wonderful thing in the world. Thank you, for doing what you do.

I'm due in 5 weeks and have a planned c-section scheduled - I have never heard of this happening before until just the past few weeks on some support web groups... it's apparently more common them any of us knew.... I talked with Doctor about this and she said it's mainly due to using the wrong stitching procedure - tape, glue, staples, actual stitches.... Hope S-I-L recovers nicely and she has lots of help around the house in the coming weeks.... My father is coming and I have already told him he can not leave me until I am 6 weeks post-partum..... thankfully he's agreed to help me with other 2 munchkins during this time. What would I do without my parents???????

Oh my.. well this *WON'T* happen to you! My mother in law went to stay with my sister in law for a few days. She went home today and gets to find out what real work is : ) Babies are great but MAN OH MAN! I wish my dorky 10 month old would start sleeping through the night.

I am going to share a secret with you. The jump from one to two kids is HUGE, like leaping the grand canyon on a BMX bike. The jump from two to three?? Nuthin! Seriously you are already someone who can pack up and army and move it across large land masses. Adding one more soldier is no big deal. The older kids help too. They love to help around here. I just wad up wet diapers and lob them at whoever looks bored to throw away (seriously, everyone scatters when they see me with a wet diaper).

Let me know how it goes! I sometimes think I want to try for a girl but you KNOW it would be a boy again! Once you have 4 boys you can pretty much forget having a girl.

I know I can't compete with smokeater, but I was present at both of my wife's C-sections. Trust me, you don't want to see what's happening on the other side of the curtain.

Oh, I watched. It was kind of interesting. I just think my DW is happier for not having witnessed it.

my husband was there for the previous two but he kept his head low and didn't look - didn't even cut the cord when they took baby to the side to check out.... Our friend just had a c-section and her husbands' first words to me was "Man, those doctors don't treat you nicely during the surgery".... for me, I'm all about just hand me a clean baby after a nap and I'm happy. Here's hoping for another smooth recovery and no incisions coming undone.... Hope SIL is home and resting and doing well.

That is SO true, Nancy. Going from one to two nearly killed me. (NO, I am not exaggerating. At least, that's how it felt at the time.) Going from two to three (which, by the way, was an accident - don't flame me but does anyone get pregnant a third time on purpose?) was a breeze.

Oh I hear ya. So we didn't think we could get pregant. We had one years ago when I was large (320lbs) and due to my, then undiagnosed, crummy cervix went into a very fast labor at 24 weeks and he didn't make it. We didn't think we could get pregnant again (months on Clomid etc) and adopted G2 then a miracle happened and we got Steven! (No one adopts one baby, but no one EVER adopts two anymore). Steven was a bit of a challange (born addicted) so I was ok without having any birth children so we gave up. Then I started running. I had to take a break because of a bout with running related pneumonia (over training) and I got pregnant!

My poor doctor. I told her: "But I can't be pregnant I'm infertile, besides I have a marathon next month". Well no marathons for me. A cerclage and months of bedrest and we had a very early 3lb Hernie Roo.. Finally got him home and my poor doctor (and I am not kidding cause I don't do bed rest well) said: "If you don't be careful you will get pregnant again". I did not believe her. I think I had stopped breastfeeding 2 weeks when I got pregnant with JJ. I actually cried. He came early too but my doctor has gotten better at giving me orders that I listen to and he came at almost 5 lbs (it was exactly like having a toddler for me). Now I am NOT going through that again!

Oh and to cap this off (for those of you masochists who are still reading) when I say Ben (first) came fast I am not kidding. The ambulance did not make it. My husband delivered him and, with 911 on the phone, cut the cord. He was a champ. Ben was a fighter but it is doubtful he would have made it in a level 1 NICU (or is that level 4? I know there are 4 levels but I cannot remember which the most comprehensive is).

OK life story off.

I second (or third? ) the statement about going from one to two kids. I specifically remember when my son was about 3 weeks old and my daughter was about 2 1/2. It was 11:00 a.m. and I had both kids bathed and dressed as well as myself. I was so proud I called my husband to tell him of my great accomplishment. He wasn't nearly as impressed!

Having one child is a hobby. A nice one, a commendable one, but still a hobby. Two or more is work.
