Get in a solid warmup beforehand, bring trainer with you to the race, lots will have theirs so you won't look silly with the trainer in the parking lot before the race.

Don't max out right at the gun.

Remember there is no run afterwards so once you get going, ride hard.

Don't get discouraged if you get caught and passed, it happens.

Above!

Leave the ego at home, you are entering Roadie territory There WILL be the roadie that specializes in TT's at the event... and yes, he is really going that fast.

My first TT I averaged 25mph, got blown out by 5 other guys (and it was a small TT) one of which was on a road bike with no clips. Winner beat me by over 2 minutes!

Also, if it's out and back, give yourself a little room for error going too easy on the way out, then give it all you've got on the way back. You should cross the finish line (bonus points if you look like a hero and sprint out of the saddle the last couple hundred meters) almost dizzy from the effort.

You were close.  With training, you'll keep getting faster and faster!

I like to break a TT up in 1/4s, for example a 40k, I will try to control heart rate the first 10k, go solid for the next 20k, and completely uncork it for the last 10k.

Lots of people in the parking lot riding trainers before, as was said above. Done properly, it'll hurt.
