Anyone in Myrtle Beach, SC?

Pro  3870      Virginia Beach, VA |  Subject: Anyone in Myrtle Beach, SC?I'll be in Myrtle Beach Aug 14-20 on a little vacation. I'll be 3 weeks out from my 1/2 IM so I can't skip the training. Anyone live in the area that can give me some advice on where to ride and maybe a local track for speed work? I figure I'll just swim in the ocean...no need for a pool. Thanks- Joel |

You would be safe to run/ride in the defunct air force base that is smack dab in the middle of MB. There is also a state park (can't think of the actual name-look in the phone book) just a bit south of MB. Good luck, have fun. |

Veteran 231 | Subject: RE: Anyone in Myrtle Beach, SC? My parents live in North Myrtle Beach so I train there often. Here are some thoughts: 1. Check out the race course for the cycling event associated with the Myrtle Beach Marathon (http://www.mbmarathon.com/exec/myrtle/course_rides.cfm?publicationID=94). If you get out early in the morning, it is a fairly safe ride. 2. You can also drive to Calabash, NC and ride to Ocean Isle, NC and back to get in decent mileage without much traffic. I am doing this on Thursday so I will give you an update. 3. Here is the website for the Grand Strand Cycling Club: http://www.strandcyclist.com/. 4. Depending on where you are staying, there are several local schools with tracks. 5. In addition, Coastal Carolina University is on Hwy 501 (I think) and has a good track. Let me know if you have any questions. I am heading down there this week so I will check out other locations for you. |

I'll have to check on exactly where I'm staying...some timeshare that my GF's grandmother is giving us for the week. I'll ikely be looking to get my training in early in the morning before the heat kicks in too much and to not hold up the activities of the day...it is vacation after all.
