Age Group Rank = 5/5
Pre-race routine:

Early wakeup; eat light breakfast
Event warmup:

light jogging
Swim
  • 23m 11s
  • 820 yards
  • 02m 50s / 100 yards
Comments:

Really crappy swim. I thought I was ready for this. It was twice as long as first sprint, but I thought it would be better. Went out too fast and breathing was real bad. Had to breast some to prevent hyperventilating. After a while, i got a little better. My navigation was better this time. I need serious work on this skill
What would you do differently?:

I need some coaching and drill work
Transition 1
  • 03m 50s
Comments:

I did better here than my first race. After the bad swim, I had that dazed feeling.
What would you do differently?:

Not much. If I swim better, I think this would be better
Bike
  • 40m 19s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 18.50 mile/hr
Comments:

I put the least training effort into this leg, but it was by far my best leg. I could and should have pushed it more. I felt good and went pretty fast for me.
What would you do differently?:

I would push harder. i was feeling good and could have made up another few minutes
Transition 2
  • 02m 14s
Comments:

transition area was really tight, but I did OK.
What would you do differently?:

Not much
Run
  • 31m 34s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 10m 09s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt ok, but calf tightened up early. Stretched it and it helped. I could have run some faster, but helped a 16 year old who was really struggling. Kept him on pace. I felt like I accomplished something by helping him. It's not like I was running for prize money.
What would you do differently?:

Not much
Post race
Warm down:

Walk; drink

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Swim sucked. Condition continues to need improvement

Event comments:

This was a great event. Lots of athletes. I really liked the course. I will come next year and do better--promise. I know I have 10-15 minutes of improvement in me.

Good race, Bill! Once your breathing gets out of control on the swim, it can be hard to get it back, but you recovered nicely and followed up with a good job on the bike. Very kind of you to help out that kid.

Yes, you will come back and do even better!
