Total Time = 1h 41m 49s
Overall Rank = 135/285
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 29/50
Pre-race routine:

Pump tires, check bike and set up transition area. Ate a 1/2 a bagel along with a banana in the morning adn loaded up on water. Extremely humid day.
Event warmup:

Short run to stretch the legs followed by 5 minutes of stretching. Gu Expresso shot 30 minutes before the race start and a 10 minute warm up swim.
Swim
  • 15m 41s
  • 880 yards
  • 01m 47s / 100 yards
Comments:

Had a really good swim, with one exception. The last turn to go to shore, for some reason I started my turn one buoy to early. I caught quickly but it stopped my momentum and I had to restart. But everything seemed to click.
What would you do differently?:

Uhh turn on the right buoy!
Transition 1
  • 02m
Comments:

I think this is my best T1 time (have to check) and yet I was ranked 155. Everything went smooth except with my left foot. Suit got stuck on my timing chip, although it didnt take long to correct.
What would you do differently?:

Be faster...I cant think of anything I really did wrong.
Bike
  • 56m 18s
  • 16.4 miles
  • 17.48 mile/hr
Comments:

I didnt do as well on the hills as I'd hope to, not sure why just didnt have the kick. I killed the flats and the few downhills, actually a little disappointed in the ride overall.
What would you do differently?:

My disappointment in the ride is clearly a training issue. While I tranin on hills, I need to incorporate longer rides to improve my lactate threshold and recovery time.
Transition 2
  • 01m 1s
Comments:

This transtition felt smooth and I didnt use socks. Not for the time saving although it was smoother, I felt really good leg-wise and comfortable without socks.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing...work on speed
Run
  • 26m 51s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 08m 40s  min/mile
Comments:

I felt really strong in the legs and my breath wasnt too labored. As the run progressed my breathing improved and thats when I stepped up the pace.
What would you do differently?:

Working on finishing with nothing in the tank. Pretty tough to get through the mental barrier.
Post race
Warm down:

Water, Orange slices and finally a massage. Usually the lines are so long but this time I got in with only 3 people ahead me WooHoo! felt good! A clifBar on the way home.

Event comments:

Race started 20 minutes late, no big deal though

Hey Jose,

Great race in the humidity. Awesome swim time and your transition times look fast to me. There must be some fast transitioners in your area. Were they cycling barefoot?

Your cycling pace looks pretty good for rolling hills. It's good to hear that you have a plan for getting even better. As usual you had a nice run.

Great race overall and I'll check your album for pics.
