Anyone here have experience with this race? If so, are there any helpful tips that I should know. The race is in a few weeks, and I've been going on 60mi rides twice a week, though I don't think this is proper training.

I'm doing the race, but have no experience with it.

Are you riding as part of a team/club or solo?

Start with the race guide http://www.bocahawaii.com/userfiles/file/DEMRR%202010%20Race%20Guide.pdf

And the map  http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=102136754265685840288.000436ecaa863400e48ba&t=h&z=11

hey...I just saw your reply from your tinman RR.

I'm also riding with cambio/core.  Been riding with them for about 10 months.  I'm not an official member...meaning I haven't paid any club dues or do not have a team jersey...but when I asked a few weeks ago how do I officially join, they said I was in already...and they're seeing if they have any leftover team kits I can buy.  Ask for David Lum and talk to him on Tuesday.

Wow, the guide was long but pretty informative. Yesterday a 30 min procedure at sears auto ended up taking 2 hrs, so i missed the team ride. But i'll try shoot for the saturday morning ride. I believe its 6 am at triangle park? I'm Dan btw, or also known as "Charisa's friend" since nobody remembers my name lol.

6:30am at triangle park.  I'll be there so long as I get over this minor cold I'm dealing with.

I'll likely have on a grey jersey and a grey or white long sleeve compression on underneath.  I ride a charcoal and red specialized.

I'm riding a specialied allez elite.

It's the first bike I got last September before getting my P2.  It's entry level "performance" bike (not a true race bike), aluminum with 105 components and will do the job.  I'm fighting the urge to sell it for a carbon race bike.  But I know deep down it's not going to make that much of a difference.  But it's okay to drool.

Race just got cancelled due to "reasons outside our control".  My guess is that HPD is stretched out too far with the USC game and the upcoming Labor Day weekend.

Either way, feels like I just got punched in the stomach.

super bummed to hear that Jason. I just heard it from my friend that talked to boca, and they are still trying to get the race going, but delayed to another date...not sure if that is real or not though.

Damn I was looking foward to biking for 6 hours straight. Iwent down to mccully to get a tune up, bought biking gear and tons of gel packs and bars, only to have to race cancelled ):
Any rumors going on about the rescheduling date?

Dan,

not sure if you got this email from David Lum

No police so a few of the teams are having a casual ride from the Hawaii Kai Park and Ride on Sunday Starting at 6:00 am.  Everyone must observe the traffic lights and signs and it's neutral to Kunia where it turns to brisk training.  It's not a race so there won't be any prizes.  Ride hard but be safe and have fun.

-David

Not sure if I'm riding.  I'm trying to figure out what the Core group is planning on doing.  My decision will largely be based on what they do as my intentions of entering the race to begin with was to work with them as a team.

Hey, thanks for the heads up. I didn't get the email, but yeah, I'm unsure as well. I do hope they have it this year and they give the riders enough time for a heads up.

I heard that the "tag the world" triathlon on Aug 21st had their bike portion cancelled.  At the time, I didn't ask why, but my guess now is that it was also due to HPD backing out of closing off the bike course.  They ended up chaning it to a aquathon, and when everyone was done, they all went out on a bike ride together.  Pretty lame considering it was a $100 sprint.

If HPD was the cause for that race being "adjusted", then I would be really dissapointed in HPD.  I have all the respect for our officers, and if they need to be somewhere else, then so be it.  But this sounds like it was a management decision that could have been made a long time ago...not 5 days before the race.  I'm wondering if this new police chief we have is making these decisions.

yeah pretty ridiculous that HPD killed one of the original races that made up the original IM.
