I am considering getting a trainer. What is the least noisy option? One reason I am considering is to allow myself to ride at home after the 2 yout's are sleeping and I don't want to wake them. Fluid? Magnetic? wind? Would rollers be my best bet?

What is the least expensive option?

Based on some other threads then, rollers may be the way to go. ANyone have experience with the Nashbar parabolic rollers?

I bought a Graber Mag trainer. Initially it was way too loud, however, I took the black plastic cover off and the noise was significantly reduced. At least enough to watch TV or a cycle vid at a decent volume. Price was $90 and it provides a great workout.

Kurt Kinetic.  Although if you have two yout's you may want something cheaper.  Just go look for a fluid trainer on craig's list.  Magnetics vibrate, are loud and annoy me.  A guy I used to live with had one.  It was hard to even watch TV in the same room.

Get KK or Cycleops2 Fluid. THey're worth every penny.

Even if you decide you don't want it anymore, they have great resell value on ebay or CL. Not so much with the other brands.

These two are as quiet as you can get with a trainer - if you're under 20mph, it's pretty good, but at 20+, it's as loud as a washing machine, and louder if you're the neighbor downstairs suffering from the vibrational effect.

KK is very quiet. I hardly have to turn the volume up on radio or t.v

As of a few days ago, there was a sale on the Cycleops fluid 2 at REI Belingham. I don't know if this means that all REI's have the same sale, but worth checking.

The 1up trainer is about 2 clicks on the remote control quiet.  It uses centrifical force to push against a resistance plate.  I am big fan and it's very quite.  www.1up-usa.com  I believe it the website.

Ditto, hardly even have to turn my volume up.  I use mine in a loft area directly above our main living room and wife will watch tv downstairs and says she can barely tell I am on the bike.  Very little noise or vibration.  $299, free shipping, lifetime warranty.  1upusa also sells the kks on their website.

I don't have the parabolic rollers but I have the reduced radius nashbar rollers.  Perfect, light and easy to tuck away, fairly quiet.  I do miss zoning out listening to music and watching tv though.  No standing intervals for me, too difficult and not natural.
