And I just entered my first triathlon, a sprint distance, at Pacific Grove, CA.  I'm an "almost 60 y/o" gal, but it's never too late to start - right?  My forte' is bicycling, which simply means I do that way better than run or swim, but I'm hardly competitive.  In fact, competition is not what I'm all about; it's testing and bettering myself and staying young and fit.  And, it's just plain fun, and oh so satisfying!  Hi, ya'll!

Welcome!  My forte is beer drinking...I do that way better than swimming, biking, and running.  I'm 36 and I have been passed by people older than you, so you may just surprise yourself.  Thankfully I'm not competitive by nature and am just out there to enjoy the experience of races and the training.  Years ago on the San Diego tri club website there was a list called "Ten Things You Should Know About Triathlon."  One of the things was, "Old women will beat you, get over it."  Not saying you fall in the "old" category, just saying you will probably beat me one day. Smile

Have fun, figure out who to listen to on here and enjoy the ride....

Good luck at the PG Tri, I think I have a friend who is making that her first tri too.  Let us know how you do.

Well, thank you!  That was an inspiring reply.  I am in it for the experience, as well, b ut I suspect this may not be my first and only "attempt".  I am enjoying it just too much.  Now, I want you to know that I know how much most men HATE being passed by a woman, especially an "older" woman - I've seen the proof too many times when on my bike.  It's nice to hear of at least one man out there who doesn't mind, but that doesn't mean I could pass you, either. Laughing

Also, I do fall into the "old" category, at least by chronological standards!  Wink

I'm hoping your friend enjoys the PG Tri, it's a beautiful course and setting, and it should be a lot of fun.

I'll keep everyone posted on how far back I fare.

Thanks again!

Welcome!
I'm pretty new here too. This is my first year of tri's. I was turning 50 and thought it was about time to get in shape. I've loved the training! I've done 3 sprints and my first Oly will be the one at Pacific Grove. I'm excited. I'm looking forward to all the beautiful scenery.
Good luck on your sprint!

Johanne, Karibu, thank you!

Johanne, perhaps I'll see you at the Oly.  I plan to be there to spectate.  Good luck, and have fun!

Congratulations on getting started! It's a great sport. This site is full of wonderful information - poke around. Something I found inspiring when I first started was reading all of the First Time Tri stories under articles. Made me very excited to get to my first race.

Have a great race and let us know how you do!

Welcome to BT.  I'm the same age as you and having a blast.  I've been benched this season b/c of surgery and a ruptured disc but I'm on the mend and just starting to ride again.  Have fun at the PG Tri.

Yeah, but I'm NOT one of them, Chris! Laughing

Thank you, though.

Well, thank you for that, Di, but...welllllll....I don't think I am!  I was a confirmed sedentary couch potato type until three years ago, and I still view myself as more of a casual type than a true athlete.  However, there are worse things to be!

Thanks again!

Thank you!!  I too am coming off of major surgery, March 24th, and here I am!  I'm  amazed, and I'm so thrilled my body has responded the way it has.  It's never too late to start taking of yourself and have some fun while dong it - right?

I'm so looking forward to the PG Tri, and to hopefully, many more.
