Hey you all! Just want to introduce myself. I am Denise and I want to do a sprint race before I turn 30 next year. Just bought a bike and was really excited about getting things started. Unfortunately, I am still very rusty on my bike and scraped my left knee. Oops. Can't wait to get things started again.

I would love to hear from all of you. Please drop me a note to say hi.

Welcome to the club. This is a great forum to ask any questions you may run into, and you'll have lots of them. My first peice of advice is to above all remember this is supposed to be fun, so have fun. Second piece of advice, is set a budget for yourself and stick to it. You can break the bank buying all the gadgets that people say you need.

Good luck

Welcome on board! I am also from Minnesota. My goal is to complete a sprint some time next summer. I'm 44 and had two knee replacements in 2003. I figured I could either use them as an excuse or use them as a second chance. I prefer the second. Don't forget to check E-bay when dealing with equipment. I bought my heart rate monitor there. It is old, and doesn't have all the bells and whistles but it is one of my most used piece of equipment. Good luck on the training.

Yeah, equipments are expensive! I think I will hold off on additional purchases until I am done with my initial 16 weeks of training.

Hey Kelly!! Good to see you here!!

Yeah, getting injured is part of the process. Like my coworker said, "well, Lance falls too". I guess next time I get injured I should ask myself "WWLD".

Hi Denise,
I'm a MN newbie, too! I did my first sprint in May, and am doing Brewhouse in Duluth on Aug. 7th. Someday I will tell you the "don't want to fall out of my clipless pedals in front of the neighbors who are having margaritas" story that ends with blood dripping down my leg (but no fall) and a whole group of neighbors who were duly impressed with my efforts

Have fun!
