Pre-race routine:

Woke up at about 2:45am and ate a cliff bar, banana, and drank a gatorade. Got all my stuff ready and then met up with all the other firefighters running. Got to the race site about 3:45 and they posted the colors and sang the national anthem. Run started right at 4am.
Event warmup:

Nothing really just kind of walked around and talked to everyone.

Comments:

I have to say i had a great time on this run especially with this being the first half marathon i have ever run. Started out nice and easy then just tried to keep a good pace the entire time. I was worried about how the water stations were going to be so i wore my fuel belt. Fortunatly the aid statinos were great and i dropped my fuel belt at about mile 8 at the aid station the fire department was operating. Since the race started at 4am it was nice and cool out but at some points there was no light so you couldn't see where you were running which was kind of crazy. Overall I had a great race and I executed my plan perfectly. Being my first half I have to say i am extremely happy with my time.
What would you do differently?:

Not have worn my fuel belt.

Way to go Greg!  That is definitely a great time for your first half.  Don't let your endurance slack before you come back, keep up with the training.
