Does anyone use one of the approved speed suits? I am wondering about any provided buoyancy they may or may not provide? Faster in the water? worth the time lost in transition?

No buoyancy benefits to any of the approved suits - that's really the thrust of the rule change. That being said, De Soto claims a teeny buoyancy advantage in their suit due to the pad in the shorts, but I gotta give that claim a big "C'mon now..." & roll-eyes

Every manu is going to claim "fastest", but the new rules really limit (i.e. remove) any technical advantages for speed on the approved suits also.

Basically, the only advantage to using a speedsuit these days is to streamline your tri kit in the water (cover up the pockets, seal up your neck & arm holes better, etc).

Cheers, Chris

Wow...that seems to be a bit of a stretch.

Just FYI, the neoprene speed suits (which you can find for a steal) are still USAT legal, just not WTC legal.  So you might not be able to race Kona or a branded 70.3 in that speed suit, but your local sprints and olys are still good to go.

over just a plain breif cut pair of shorts i got about 1-2 sec per 100 with a shorty suit, and about 1-3 sec withthe full leg suit.

the shorty suit was about the exact same time diff i get using my speedo fastskin II.

Paper is not a water item!

My speed suit is no suit at all.  It even has a built-in rudder.
